Matched Inlets

Afternoon y'all

Where have people had the inlets matched? Ive just bought a spare inlet so was going to send it off to be matched and then custom sprayed.

Thanks, Chris

Prices vary from place to place mate, think I've read some people say £100ish and some people say £200ish.

Gains depend on how poor your Inlets are to begin with. If they're really bad you'll get a nice little gain, if they're quite good from the factory then the result will be negligable. Only way to tell if yours are good or not is to whip them off and have a look, then decide if you think they look like they'd benefit from having a bit of fettling...

Thanks for that mate going to have to have a look into this after Christmas, how can you tell if the inlets are bad?

Sorry to hijack the thread just interested

There's a few photos up on here somewhere. Generally bad casting around the ports, rough edges, mishapen etc..

not much of a gain Litchy? May reconsider as I didnt actually buy them in the end, the seller wouldnt agree a price with me lol

I wouldn't personally. My own view is moddin' the 197 engine is the sum of all the parts coming together. Really doesn't work in isolation of each other.

I wouldn't do it either as a standalone mod mate. I only did that when fitting the cams so I had a remap altogether.

Well my plans are to get my Ktec with decat fitterd, a 64/63mil throttle body a maxogen induction kit and a remap, would I benefit from having the inlets done?

Chris if you don't buy them inlets mate I could be interested

Best advice I could give is a good exhaust and remap. Drive and enjoy your car. Ignore the rest cause chasing NA will leave a big hole in your pocket for very few gains.....

I think I will take that advise just been looking and it's get more exspencive like cams lol

I just want more low down power more grunt so it climes up to rev range quicker.
As I find these cars only really come alive at 4000 revs

You wouldn't find it in a 197 unless you Meg it!!!! If you do, your selling your NA soul but the extra grunt is soooo addictive.

Lighter flywheel will help the revs climb faster but as with everything on a car there has to be a trade off. You won't find any NA engine that punches at low revs, it's just the nature of the beast. Well, V8s are pretty punchy, but you know what I mean. Even some V10 and V12 engines are weak low down when compared to what they have up in the higher revs.

I'm a puritan, but my God these things shift with a Turbo in them. I can see the appeal.

I would love to meg it that would be special, I'm going to have a think of what I want to do with it after Christmas, I really do fancy a maxogen 64/63 throttle body and a remap to see if that helps but after reading this thread dno if I fancy the matched inlets maybe worth a try like the flywheel.
God you can spend some money on these cars lol

I fancy a few track days because you just can't enjoy the car on roads today plus it's agenst the law haha

They're not easy or cheap to tune, Renaultsport did a cracking job to begin with. A light flywheel will cost you the best part of £350, plus as you have to drop the gearbox you'd need to replace the slave cylinder which would be another £150-ish plus labour and all the rest of it... The gains will not justify the outlay believe me, been there done it!!!

If you think that Cams will cost you around £1500 and you might get 15BHP and 15lbFt, but for another £1000 you could probably get a Meg' engine dropped in with a Decat and Remap and be around 50BHP and 100lbFt up straight away, it does start to make sense in a Man Maths kind of way.

It depends what you want from the car and how you intend to use it, how you like it to behave etc.. I'll be staying NA but if I was to go chasing power then I'd be throwing a Meg' engine in without a doubt. I must admit that I do fancy a Diff' though, hard to justify the price for something you can't see or hear but they make such a difference.
