Light up my life

Guys and girls,

My love and knowledge of these cars is far reaching however neither of which extends quite as far as the headlights. I have a 2008 197 cup that i have owned for a few months with a bulb recently going pop. The working main light is a lovely bright white and I'm anxious to replace the duff one with an identical one. Could people have a little look at the attached picture and basically tell me what I need to buy and whether it is a projector/reflector. The main dealer that I phoned checked my number plate and told me that xenons were;t offered on this model so I can't have them. In my ignorance I thought given the powerful and white light they emit they must be xenons so the question is if not xenons then what. There is also a square bulb above the one working light in the picture that hasn't illuminated as the other side has. What is that. I realise such questions are not those of an informed man but as I've said above, my knowledge and love of cars does;t extend to such areas which is unhelpful when there appears to be more night than day at the moment.

Just to clarify it's the big bulb on the left and the square bulb above the one lit light in the photo that I need help identifying. What would it have come from the factory with?

Many thanks

Yeap, your lights are indeed projectors. The square bulb that is lit is indeed your side light as @CallorFold has said. The bulb directly above that is your high beam which is a H1 bulb. The bulb on the left is your dipped beam which is a H7 bulb. I'm not sure if Xenons were an option on cup models, however if you haven't got headlamp washers sticking out on your front bumper, you don't have them.

If you're worried about the new bulb not matching the colour of the other, buy a pair of bulbs and replace them both. Loads of options out there depending on if you want the whitest light, or a stronger light.
