HID help

So a while back I brought some projectors and associated HID's from a member on here.

I'm in two minds at the moment because one of my headlight leveling motors is kaput. But either way the output on the drivers side light isnt correct - it comes out like a spot light and is aimed to low. Whereas the passenger side is level like I was expecting. I've just taken the actual bulbs out to have a look at the setup and this is what I came across.

What do people reckon?

Not sure they're meant to look like this..? Possible cause?

They rock around in there holder so I have no idea if they actually point how they're meant to - obviously affecting how high the output. Also is there a right way up or anything like that?

That's some cheap chinese bulbs!! What you need are metal base with ceramic insulation, your glad you've caught that early enough or that could have been disastrous I'd say, clearly caused by heat, those plastic based bulbs are cheap for a reason ergo what you have found, the ceramic versions are not that much more just a couple of quid but can save you a pretty penny when they fail

hows the holder? Think it's made of metal so shouldn't be melted but your right the bulb should sit nice and flat in the holder and not move at all, I'll have a look on eBay for the bulb you need

So if i get the new HID's, will I have to replace everything, or can you just change over the bulbs @Craig211? (I don't even know if it is possible to change just the bulb admittedly..)

Hi mate. No i changed from 6000k to 5000k just need to replace that bulb and the leads it comes with. Not any of the ballast's etc

I'd recommend these as replacement ceramic bases which cannot melt!
Only a tenner aswel from a uk seller  hope that helps I'd recommend 5000k also as it's the best colour and less likely to attract attention from the rozzers :tongueout:

I'm about to order these, will the base be wide enough to be held in securely do you know?

What you mean? It's a h1 fitment bulb so will fit any h1 hole, and I think there's a metal clio that should go round it and hold it down, that is unless your base is damaged, don't have projectors so don't know if the base is plastic or metal :/

I've just ha a look at those pics properly and the white plastic isn't part of the bulb! It's a shim put in during packaging to prevent damage. That shouldn't be in the headlight at all! Obviously the plastic cannot handle the heat from the bulb. Take of the white plastic and the bulb should sit fine in the holder just be careful with the glass

haha no worries mate. btw my leveling motor packed up as well, apparently £50 posted new so I might go for it.

EDIT. Just noticed the pictures, Craig is right, that plastic foamy thingie is only to protect the bulb when packaged, it should have been removed prior to fitting!!!!

I can happily say I brought these off a member, what a numpty hahhaaaa. Be interested to see what happens tomorrow! And yeah I saw that Yiannis197, not sure how I feel about 50 quid hahaaa.

cheaper to buy a second hand set of normal head lamps and most people leave the motor on. I will check on tuesday see if I still have mine but stupidly I think I threw my old ones away.

Right i've just been to the garage, had a look at the ballast and took the white cr'p off of the holder.

Now I'm starting to think they're not H1 bulbs as the wire clip does not hold the bulb AT ALL. (see 1st picture)

I've put the ballast box pic in so you lot can tell me if these are completely wrong haha.

sujuqudy.jpg this is a halogen h1 bulb notice the two dimples and flat edge? They should only go in one way round, can't see why it doesn't fit, are you sure you have the bulb the correct way? Ballast will be okay but the bulbs I linked won't work you have 55w ballasts so will require 55w bulbs just search "h1 hid 55w ceramic" in eBay
