WD40 works and gets mentioned loads if you Google this topic.

I just removed a load of decal residue with it last night on a soft cotton cloth with zero issues in not too much time at all.........

nail varnish remover also works if you want a bit more 'punch'. I have used it in the past to remove number plate sticky pad residue.

Another recommendation for Autoglym Tar Remover, dab it over the adhesive and leave to soak in for a little before gently cleaning the adhesive away, I've just de-badged the rear of my Clio with this product and it worked a treat.
