Goddamn wheel offset!

I'll be buying a dedicated trackday wheels soon-ish and I've been researching available wheel options for my 197. The result thus far has been me getting pissed at the wheel offset Renault chose for these things because most wheels don't go higher than et50. Alleggerita and the Ultraleggera are the only wheels I found that go up to et68 and those two I am indifferent to, I neither like them nor hate them. Now, as these will be trackday wheels, looks are not super important but I'd like to have something that I like the looks of on the car even on track.

My first choice are the Sparco Procorsa, below, but those only go to et48. Does anyone know of something similar that can be had in the correct offset?

If you're wondering why I don't buy et50 wheel and call it a day, it's because of the suspension geometry. The scrub radius with stock offset is 15 mm. With et50 it is 1,4 mm, so basically zero. Reducing the scrub leads to loss of steering feel and stability issues under braking-not something you want on track.

Speedline Turini come in 8x18 in the correct offset

Those look pretty good actually but if I decide to get them I will have to order them from the UK or somewhere else because as it turns out, no one here (Sweden) sells them. :disappointed: I wouldn't fit the K-tec ones if they were given to me for free tbh...

spanish brand 'braid' do competition wheels : https://www.braid.es/wheels/
not the lightest. not the prettiest. but very strong and quite affordable.

best thing is, you can choose the offset. any colour you like as well.

@Gordini has 8X18's. can't remember what offset though.

@peter Damn, their Forged 1 wheel is droolworthy! 950 EUR a pop though!

@Gordini Those are the Fullrace A right? They do look good and are not that expensive although I'll have to powdercoat them if I get 'em. Did you notice any changes in the behaviour of the car when you fitted them? ET56 does reduce the scrub with 2/3.

I like the Forge I too but they're too expensive for me. The Fullrace A I have are great, no adverse changes noticed, only a bit more grip as the tyres are a bit bigger and better than before.

By the way, you don't need them powder coating, braid will make them in the colour of your choice for a bit more money.

They are too expensive for most of us mate. Besides, mounting 4k EUR worth of wheels on a 10k EUR worth of car is pure insanity.

Oh, ok. I thought they only supply them in white or gold because they only show those two colors on their website. There's also a dealer here in Sweden that sells them in, you guesses it, white or gold. Will contact them to see how much it would cost to have them in some other color. PlastiDip is always an option too.

Extract from their online brochure showing some of the other colours

They also do a lighter version that basically machines some of the metal away from the face of the wheel (think of a gordini alloy with polished face)

when i got mine, braid wanted €70/wheel for any colour other than white.
why do you want 18 inch trackday wheels? most go for 17.

Agreed. If I were getting track wheels I'd probably stick with 17 and keep 18 for show. Unfortunately 17 no longer fit mine so I have no choice...

@peter @Gordini 18's offer stiffer side walls for better turn in and steering feel at the expense of acceleration and braking performance. It is a tradeoff I'm willing to make as I think it will give me more confidence to push the car in curves where Clios really shine. Whatever is faster on track can be and often is debated. Some people go to 15's when possible and swear it makes them faster, others do and swear by the opposite. Here's a table I borrowed from http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/The-differences-between-17-18-and-19-inch-tyres.htm notice the difference in dry lap times between different wheels.
