Do they do the lot?

Basically, when you get your wheels refurbed do they paint the whole wheel? ie the inside etc, the bits yo dont see?
Ive seen some where they tape up the tyre and just do the face? is this normal procedure?
Thanks J

only have mine done by the wheel specialist in leeds and the whole lot is done :thumbup1:

thats - remove tyre - strip paint - repaint - refit/balance wheel etc

thats good then, im really in two minds what to do, my wheels are a state and need a refurb. buuuut i really want speedlines, but at a good price lol im too impatient lol!

Think this just depends on where you take them to be honest, proper place will do the whole lot

A mate of mine has his own company and charges £40ish a wheel. www.wheelrite.co.uk

I think that's about the going rate for refurb & painting. Powdercoating will be a bit more depending where you go for it.

Anywhere you go *should* remove the tyres and weights first, refurb & refinish and then obvisouly rebalance afterwards for you.

Most places charge extra for removing / refitting the tyres.

You can find places who will just push the tyre back from the rim and repaint the face.

Often if not always (unless you get someone who takes pride in their work) mobile refurbishers who are just touching up a scratch or curbing will end up overspraying the inside of the wheel and just spraying the one area on the face of the wheel. This is crap as the inside of the wheel often ends up with paint/dirt combined.

If you're taking them for a full respray they should be stripping it back and spraying the whole wheel.

Just got two totally different quotes for return of all wheels on my gf car. First guy wants £140 total. Seemed reluctant to take tyres off and suggested job done in four hours!! Is a one man band in a small unit/ garage on a farm yard.

Second guy at full pro body shop quoted £75 per wheel plus vat but said all the right things about taking tyres off, shot blast and repaint etc. Gave the job two days! Dropped quote to £250 + vat after pressure.

Which would you go for?

...no brainer surely......second one but still worth looking for others

The first guy is cutting corners if he's doing 4 alloys in 4 hours.

Important to remember that the alloy should be stripped bare before painting. You see so many companies who don't even clean the inner alloys and lacquer over the dirt

the second guy definately. you get what you pay for and it is well worth shelling out that bit extra, no doubt if you went for the first option then you wudnt be happy with the finish and would be dissapointed anyway. From what i hear of other peoples experiences £250 isnt a bad price.

I've had 2 sets of 18's done in the past.

Been around the £150 mark. This includes removal, refitting and rebalance. Fully blasted and pc'd.

...yep...I've booked it in with the second guy...couple of weeks waiting which is a good sign and I have heard good things about them....the wheels are genuine BBS rims on a Golf Cabriolet, so its worth the money.......
