I really don't get it, they'll do it to the wrong person and end up taking a beating. The hypocrisy of it is that you'll probably end up hearing them complaining about said beating.

Don't play on people's fears, its at that point we're at our most dangerous!

It's creepy for sure but I doubt I'd be running away from one. It's just a berk in fancy dress at the end of the day, nothing to be scared of.
Although I've heard of some carrying big knives, not good.
