'Cazan Racing' Clio - One Day Detailing/Correction - *PICS!*

My week started with a text from Mr. Fernandez (he of Cazan Racing fame)...

"Alright Fella, just wondering if you are still able to help me with detailing the car for Autosport... I've kind of left it a bit late."

Not one for being dramatic, I can assure you we had left it "a bit late". We had one day (and one that could start at 9.30am, and had to be finished by 4:30pm) to get the car in ship shape to go on the Performance French Car stand at Autosport International this week!

So a plan was laid and we cracked on with ordering the supplies we would need for the job. Angel had asked me to check out some of the Kleers products he had for sale on his site and to recommend anything I though he should pick up to both prep the car now and to take down to the NEC for last minute touch ups. I suggested he pick up the 'Large Detailers Kit' as it contained most of the things we would need for the prep, some stuff for the show, and some stuff I just wanted to try for myself . Angel got on to his suppliers and received his kit next day (no small feat considering it was New Years week!). I got on to CleanYourCar and ordered some more Menzerna pads for my DA and some other bits and bobs I had been planning on replacing anyway (despite ordering on Saturday and selecting a next day delivery, my parts turned up on Friday - Just in time!).

Angel had agreed that we would try to turn up with a clean car on the day to save as much time as possible. Now, I'm sure Mr.F won't mind me saying here, that his idea of 'clean' and mine differ quite significantly!. The car had been treated to the eastern European special the day before, but unfortunately this had very little impact on the King of Anti-Detailing's car.

Given the amount of time we had, I didn't get too many pics as priority number 1 was getting finished! So you'll have to forgive the lack of decent before shots.

We started with a full car wash (teaching Angel the two bucket method) using Kleers 'The Car Shampoo'.

This went on well and smelt nice (always a must for car shampoo) and we managed to get the car looking a bit better.

But unfortunately we were going have to crack out the hard stuff to tackle the HUGE amounts of contamination in the paintwork. We think is as a result of the race spec pads Angel is keen on using on the car (and is no doubt not helped by not being decontaminated properly at the local hand car wash). I've genuinely never come across so much contamination - it was everywhere!

After a rinse we then decided to give the Kleers Tar Remover a go. Again this worked brilliantly and took off the spots no problem. Normally this would be applied to a cloth then dabbed on, that wasn't going to cut it on some panels (there were just so many specs!) so we had to spay directly on to cover the whole panel! (no pics of this)

It then started to roughly resemble a Clio (wheels had been left)...

Part 2:

We then fetched the car in to the workshop where we could stay dry (and relatively warm). Mr.F got cracking with the tape and the wheels were removed for the girls to start their "rim job".

The Wheels were in a bad state despite them being a recent addition to the car. Again, this was due to the aggressive pad choice on the car. We had no choice but to remove them from the car to try and get them clean. This was fine as we had two pairs of hands that had spent the morning gathered around a portable heater! So we decided to put an end to the girls mockery of our hard work, and gave them their own project.

Kleers Wheel Cleaner -vs- Bilberry Wheel Cleaner:-

We decided to have to put the Kleers wheel cleaner to the test. I'd already mixed up a strong Bilberry batch especially for the job (around 1:2.5 Bilberry to Water - I normally mix mine at 1:10!). Each of the girls had 1x front wheel and 1x rear wheel to go to town on to see how they compared. I'll admit I was VERY impressed by the results. The Kleers kit was better than the Billbery! On both occasions they found the Kleers actually made lighter work of the filthy wheels, though after a TON of elbow grease both gave similar end results.

At this point my battery started to get low, so I put down the camera and cracked on...

I used a combination of Menzerna Pads and Menzerna fluids on a DAS PRO6 DA to work each panel. We had very limited time, so we weren't aiming for anywhere near 100% perfection. The goal was just to remove the 'hazing' swirl marks that would be evident under the harsh lights of the exhibition centre. I'm pretty happy that we achieved this .

Here's a couple of 50/50 shots of the Cazan Racing carbon bonnet.

Time for the results....

The Results!

We then went on to finish it all off with Kleers 'The Finishing Wax' for the Paint. Kleers Glass Cleaner on the Glass, and Kleers Tyre Dressing on the tyres. I have to say I was very impressed with all of the Kleers kit, it came in a nice carry bag, all the bottles felt and looked like great quality (with a brushed aluminium effect) and they all did their jobs brilliantly. I NEED some of the tyre dressing in my life! I will say that the 'poor on' wax did seem very soft, and to me felt much more like a 'show wax' rather than what I would normally put on my car at this time of year, but we were prepping for a show . I'm sure Mr.F will be able to give some feedback on its longevity.

At this point we had all but run out of time and the 'Cazan' couple had to hit the road, so I very quickly nipped around and took some snaps. I didn't have a tripod, and TBH planning the shots amounted to just trying to keep everyone from wandering in to the shot!

Cheers Chris. I'm really wishing I'd tidied the tools up in the workshop, I had to throw half of my pictures away because of the mess in the background

Awesome write up mate and you did a sterling job in your hard work and teaching me the way of the detailing samurai.

TBH i never knew it was that dirty.. lol

The results clearly speak for themselves and the photos are excellent. When I drove home it was raining and very muddy. I had to use the car yesterday in a humongous shower but the car is still very clean. It wont take much to getting it back to show finish when I'm down there.

Its now gone from a car that looked like a daily driver to that of being a show stopper.

Massive appreciation Robo_#1

Looks great Rob!

I don't think I've ever seen that much fallout on a car before. That car was more purple than it was white lol

That looks spot on that mate
Just wish i had the patience to do that wish mine...

On a side note: Woooo, Thousanth post! :wiz:

Congrats! :bounce:

It does take a bit of patience, and a LOT of elbow grease. But the results are worth it. This was just 1 days work .

Results look immense! Making a sick car reach it's full potential. Hats off to Robo_#1 it seems.

Excellent write up, can't believe those wheels before? Looks stunning now though! Feel free to pay me a visit Robo_#1

And and seems I have gone over 1000 too :bounce1:
