197 track rod ends HELP

Hi I have a 2007 197 Clio
There is play in the steering ( it wanders and the initial turn is not instance) it failed the Mot on track rod end which had movement in them. You could move them up and down even when fully tightened. I replaced them with new one from Euro car parts ( checked no etc ) on fitting them I noticed they are not tapered, I did them up as tight as possible and re submitted for Mot which it passed.
The steering problem is still there i.e. It wanders and the initial turn is not instance. I jacked the car up ( both sides) and noticed play in the hub carriers more on one side than the other, the worse side track rod end slight up and down movement can be felt as before.
I have looked around the net for advice ( there's not much out there and came across u guys ). I have read in another forum that there should be some sort of collar that is used to fit the track rod end into the hub carrier ? Spoken to a Renault garage and specialist and they are not aware of this.
The car has have a new drop link inner steering rods, I have checked the bottom of the rack in side the car, I think the problem must be the track rod ends ???
I have looked at the official track rod end replacement and they do not appear to be tapered so can only conclude there should be this collars as mentioned before.
It driving me mad !!! Can anyone help please
Thank jason

I would always get wheel alignment checked after fitting track rod ends or any steering parts for that matter.

you would have thought so...if you have a play hub carriers then i would think it has something to do with your ball joints..

I had the exact same problem! Changed my tie rod ends, still loose and sloppy-ish steering. Ball joints are getting changed Tuesday, they are visually worn for me so probably the culprit alright.

Renault don't supply the ball joint without buying a whole control arm at a big cost, I ended up getting an aftermarket set off Optimal car parts, German made so not Chinese c**p

You say you replaced the rod ends, you don't say the tracking was done afterwards. You might want to clarify that as it needs doing and no you can't guess accurately

have you made sure the metal bush is in the hub steering arm?????

its like a small top hat shape...they usually come out with the old track rod end and if you dont swap them over the new t/r/e dont fit correctly...

Does anyone have the part number for number 14?

Craig you cannot buy it separately, Tim Finch used to make some (and someone else I cannot remember).

If yours is currently stuck on the ball joint, heat it up (or i've seen people take off the track rod end and heat it up on the stove lol) then use a windscreen wiper removal tool (or ball joint one, as long as it's the screw type) and it will come off.

@R27WTF Matt do you have any of the Track Rod end spacers by any chance?
