197 gearbox

Hi all, so today I took my Clio on the motorway for the first time and I knew the gear ratios weren’t great but I was doing 70mph @4000 rpm. Is this correct or a little high?

I knew they were bad but wow! Ok.

Is there a remedy? Like a mega e gearbox? Is that better?

Later gearbox from a 200 is slightly better but not by much. Other clio and megane gearboxes fit but are completely the wrong ratios to suit the engine and will ruin acceleration.

On the plus side a decent cruise at 60 will see you get 40 to the gallon.
