197 Cup Retrofit Cruise Control?

Hi guys,

Just bought a fantastic condition 197 Cup at the weekend, thanks for the fantastic buying guide on this site for it, it guided me well, only that 4th syncro to be sorted at some point in the future!

Also, the steering wheel has deteriorated as they all do, and am looking towards a retrim.

Was thinking at the same time, has anyone ever retrofitted cruise control to a Clio that didn't have it from factory?

In the VW world, some cars require only the buttons and to send a code to the ECU then viola, so is it as "simple" as swap the wheel, hook up and possibly send a code to the ECU with a USB-OBD cable?

I believe it's just a matter of adding buttons and a switch. Then turn the ignition on, flick the switch to both positions, turn the ignition off for 30 seconds.

I believe the 200 Cup has the wire for the cruise control switch in the centre console, it's just under a blanking plate. So it would be worth checking if your 197 had the switch wire behind the headlight dimmer switch panel. I also believe the option exists using CLIP to configure cc on or off so might be worth checking then seeing if you can find a steering wheel cheaply enough.

Aha, I thought the wire might be in the column, good to know where it originates, I'll have to get a little bit of digging done in the next few weeks sounds like.

Update on this: It is a simple retrofit provided you have access to the bits.

I ended up going to a local Renault specialist here in Ireland for a gearbox rebuild named Rentec, and he was able to retrofit cruise to the 197 Cup.

He had a wheel there that was suitable, he noted that the microswitches were not on the pedals like a regular 197, but he had no issue to wire them in.
There was a clock spring different, and then that was the lot.
He set it up on the Clip and it works away.
He charged me 200 euros for the fitting and parts, which included the donor wheel, so very happy with that
