197 cup bought, need some advice etc.

Love the car, really quick once it's warmed up and it looks the business. My one in particular hasn't a mark on the bodywork and the wheels are as new. It will need 4 new tyres soon but other than that it's great.
there are however a few niggles and questions I have that I'd like advice/help with.....

1. there is a loud noise coming from the steering going from lock to lock when still or moving slowly. It sounds like a really loud squeaky floorboard. I've heard it's probably just knuckle joint or something needing replaced or lubricated so as long as it's not serious I'm not too worried about it. The car is going in to get a load of stuff done to it in 2 weeks anyway so im confident it will be sorted then.

2. I noticed today that the tyres on the car are different sizes. 225/45/17 at the front and 215/45/17 at the back. What is the correct size for the cup with anthracite wheels?

3. It has the standard Renault single CD player but nothing comes up to put the code in, this will be more than likely replaced with a new Renault head unit for free anyway but it's a strange problem. I've took the radio out and checked all the connections and they look fine and the radio lights up when the lights are on and it makes a beep when buttons are pressed on it, but the code input thing doesn't come up on the dash display.

4. One of the dash lights behind the heater controls is very dim. Is this easily replaced?

5. While it's in with Renault I'm getting the mirrors sprayed racing blue but I can't decide if I want the black side strips racing blue or put in a carbon wrap to match the front splitter, or even sprayed black. But bare plastic looks sh*te. Any thoughts?

Hope you wise chaps can help.

Chris

I should also add that the steering noise was far far less prominant last night in the rain. It barely happened but when dry this morning it was doing it again.
no pics of the car until I've cleaned it myself and the weather is good.

The issue with your steering is the lower hub swivel bearing.

A main dealer can't supply these separately so will try and sell you a very expensive hub. Give RSPORT in Wimbledon a call and they can sell you the bearings separately for about £50 each delivered. Alternatively if you are in the Midlands Mark Black at Bolsover car care will do supply and fit for around £120 per side.

Oem size is 215/45/17. A lot of people fit 225/45/17 so either size is ok. Always best to have the same all round but then again the Audi RS3 has wider profile up front to the rear.

As Fernandez said the original size for tyres is 215. I have 225 mainly because there is a bigger range of tyres to choose from and the tyre I wanted was only available in 225. They're also cheaper which is a bonus.

I'm in norn iron mate, all this will be sorted by a family friend Renault specialist on the cheap so il not bother ordering anything as when I get it back is should be perfect. They done an amazing job with mechanical and paint stuff with my last car.

Any thoughts on how I should paint the black plastic bits?

chris mcm where abouts NI are you? Me and -Eddie- and a few others are round the Ards area.

Good luck getting the hub swivel bearing replaced on the cheap!

the fella doing the work is a manager at an accident repair Renault specialist, believe me when I say it will be fixed cheap and properly  and by cheap I mean more than likely free, including the spraying and new radio etc.
Paddy_R I'm in Belfast mate, funnily enough I don't think I have ever seen a 197 or a 200 before looking to buy one. They seem to be quite rare cars, over here anyway.

If you're on Facebook give our page a like "RenaultSport Owners Club NI"

Where exactly is the ARC Renault Specialist?

As Paddy says there's a few of us on here and we'll in excess of 100 members on the Facebook page. Keep an eye out for meets etc if that's your thing.

Id rather not say buddy in case it ever got the fella who sorts it into bother, I'd say he buries and re routes a lot of the work. I gave him my bmw with a laundry list of fixes and things I needed sprayed and I got it back like perfection without paying a penny. Il check out the Facebook page when I get a chance. As for meets I don't think il be modding my car soil might stick out like a sore thumb with a standard cup haha.

on a side note, the suspension in the car is HARD! I don't know how you guys can lower it even more! I must check and see if mine has the cup coloured springs because it's really bumpy on the roads.

Not at all, my 200 is fairly standard with only a few optional extras added by me that weren't spec'ed when new.

If its a cup like you say, then it will have cup springs. (unless theyve been changed)

I have a non cup and its pretty hard tbh lol, cant eee there being much difference.

You will probaly find that some lowering springs are not a huge amount worse tbh, depending on brand obviously.

Anyway, you dont buy a hot hatch to cruise over every bump like a range rover.
