Thanks for your reply Lewis! That's what I was thinking, the dipstick also snapped but that happened when it was out, so I'm unsure if more of it has snapped in there but that wouldn't explain the noise. It doesn't sound good does it! Hoping it hasn't, as its probably not worth repairing, only...
