The top hat often comes out still attached to the old track rod. Then people don't put it onto the new one. They don't come included with new track rods.

Mines pretty bad.... Seems common . I'd recommend decent paint or powder and then waxoil or similar on your replacement !

Weird thread bump but I think this has just happened to me. Broke down and wouldnt start . AA diagnosed crank sensor and towed me to garage. They changed the sensor and when I went to pick car up got me with a "did you know you have two small holes in your gearbox" Now have a light rattle...
