    Recaro Retrim

To be honest I think this is bing over thought. The issue as I see it is the bolster on the upper and lower parts of the seats. Most good race seats use a harder wearing alacantra style material on the bolsters, this is what I plan to do and have an upholstery company do it.

    Recaro Retrim

You can buy the fabric On its own and any decent upholsterer should be able to repair them. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Renault-Clio-197-200-RECARO-Fabric-for-Sportster-CS-Sport-Seats/351021380061?epid=1188432961&hash=item51ba8131dd:g:Sf4AAOxyj4hTHxsV

    Recaro Retrim

You can buy the material to retrim the bolsters but seems little pointbusing the same material that obviously isn't up to it.

    Recaro Retrim

I need mine don't on both seats going to look for a company up here in Glasgow but going to see what material can be used on the bolsters that is a bit harder wearing butbdoesnt look out of place.

    Removing swivels

Tom you on about the upper ball joint ? I tried some head and knocking it out, it moved a bit then stuck, in the end took them to SWR who pressed them out.

Rigid collar mod as seen on Masa's thread

If someone had a set I could certainly get these made via AS Performance at a fraction of the price.

    Lightened flywheels

I think I would be fitting a dampening crankshaft pulley like a fluid damper rather than a lightened one, there is lots of data showing vibrations in the crank at high revs caused by lightened crank pulleys on medium to long length cranks.

    Lightened flywheels

So having a good condition standard flywheel lightened and balanced properly by a suitable Engineering company at a fraction of the price of an aftermarket lightened flywheel is wasting money, mmm let me think about that one

    Lightened flywheels

As mentioned above 6kg is light for a flywheel. I know of one company in Aberdeen tha lighten and balance flywheels and have done many for Subaru and Evo guys this would probably be the most economic route given you won't be lightening that much anyway.

Power expectations from near standard 197 set up

Sorry missed the engine bit, the engine build was done by Alyn at AS Performance it'''a back with Alyn being refreshed before it goes up for sale for around the £7k mark.

Power expectations from near standard 197 set up

No I was sponsored by Whiteline who done the geometry and advised on all the suspension parts although I do know Simon well and he did advise a lot especially on Turbo spec along with Lee Owen at Owen developments

Power expectations from near standard 197 set up

Lots of reasons time pressures, cost year on year to remain competitive etc etc I could build a 300 HP Clio for half the cost of the Impreza. OK it would be in a lower class but would still be a hoot may just need a good book for the longer straights

Power expectations from near standard 197 set up

I have raced in the Scottish Hill Climb and Sprint Championship for many years amen more recently done Superlap Scotland which is a bit like time attack but the classes are based on power to weight. The Impreza I have just broke I had for around 13 years and took it from a road car to a very...

Power expectations from near standard 197 set up

Yes agree that to get to around 230HP then more intrusive mods are required. The reality is that those power gains are not logical in terms of power increase v cost. For me given the work load I have next year I would not have time to build this into a Clio with decent power but its not hard to...

Power expectations from near standard 197 set up

No you are totally wrong there is every point in my scenario in remapping a standard engine. If I choose to race the Clio this year in Road trim in the specific class I would target then 5 - 10 WHP will be significant. So an induction kit, first cat removal high flow 200 cell cat, decent exhaust...

Power expectations from near standard 197 set up

Guys this thread is about power and weight etc I personally have don even the lightening thing many times so maybe it would be a better idea to have seperate thread based on weightbsaving that would be useful to others.

Power expectations from near standard 197 set up

The Impreza was 551HP at the wheels 680HP at the Flywheel so that's around 20% on a 4 wheel drive car so would be a lot less in a front wheel drive car

Power expectations from near standard 197 set up

I can get get the weight of the car down if I wanted, I got the Impreza to 1068kg but I want to keep the Clio as a Road car for now. Does anyone have a WHP figure from a dyno run on a fairly standard set up. I would have thought somewhere between 10 and 20% loss on a front wheel drive car would...
