200: Another 'where to remap' question

Had my 197 mapped at Engine Dynamics - they spent a lot of time dialling in the low down throttle settings to try and flatten out the flat spot. Was night and day compared to the previous map.

    Belt Change in Essex

Hey - I can put you in touch with the mechanic who worked at Engine Dynamics if you want - he's gone on his own and is running AWMotorworks now - not far from Engine Dynamics. Let him know I sent you  If you want his number PM me.

    Parts list for Gearbox rebuild

Thanks a lot for the help :) that parts list would be mega - I'd definitely send my gearbox your way but kinda enjoy learning how to do things myself.

Would definitely be interested in the kit.

    Parts list for Gearbox rebuild

Hey mate that'd be much appreciated - what in the way of seals/pins do you replace? Said screw is a right pain I know :) but I can just make a tool to make that a lot easier.

    Parts list for Gearbox rebuild

@Northloopcup would you mind sharing that part list? Ball park on prices would be fairly useful too. I am thinking of giving it a go myself at some point soon, I think my third gear is starting to show signs of it happening soon, and I quite fancy the challenge.

    Cambelt/Checking for Oil Leak?

I know the sump gaskets leak, not so sure about cam cover - iirc there's no gasket but loctite/sealant used to do that - if the person hasn't done one (or similar) before then I would take it to a specialist. NW London is relatively close to Engine Dynamics.

    Gear oil change

I'd buy Elf from Renault Parts Direct initially, get it done, then do it again at some point with more expensive stuff if you'd like. Drain plug on the bottom iirc and fill hole right next to passenger driveshaft - it's white, looks like a wing nut type thing.

    Gear oil change

It's really not hard - 8mm square bit for the drain plug. Always check you can remove the fill plug first. Changing to the Elf oil is better than not changing it at all. 2L is enough. Fill until it's level with the fill hole - you can either pump it in or use pipe to make it easier.

Crunching TL4.........*NOW WITH POSSIBLE BETTER SYNCHRO RINGS!!

@Northloopcup if one was to undertake the rebuild themselves, what kind of prices would parts be? Are there any particular places better than others to source parts?

Gear Selection Issue. Yes another thread. Help please :)

I should add that Renault Parts Direct did a very good price on clutch and slave - I'd definitely recommend getting the slave done at the same time - given they are a known weak spot.

    Inner Track Rod Removal

I didn't, did not see any loctite on the rod that was removed, and to be honest I didn't anything about that in the manual. Just some standard multi purpose grease will do, iirc the ball joint, and the rack need greasing - greasing the rod shouldn't be needed. One thing I recall being rather a...

Gear Selection Issue. Yes another thread. Help please :)

Crunching in 5th isn't that common - so it could well be gearbox, but I'd likely go with the clutch based on this.

    Inner Track Rod Removal

No need to look - can just be removed using a tool. Which tool do you have? I used this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00A9R25J8/?tag=clio197-21 Made the job pretty easy... just make sure you torque it up properly, and be sure to have some grease :)...

Gear Selection Issue. Yes another thread. Help please :)

My pressure plate was broken, and did give some similar, though not quite as bad symptoms - the plate was not that broken though. Do you notice any juddering at all when pulling away?

    tcw's Clio 197

Wow - it's been a while since I updated this thread. To be honest - no real changes with the Clio - have really just been driving it to be honest. MOT was done last weekend (pass, no advisories), the week before was rebuilding the both the rear calipers, and new rear discs and pads (genuine)...

    Matt's track/nurburgring RS250 Clio f1

Good to hear that you've sorted the overheating issue - guess these things may have played a smaller part in it. I have to say - not a massive fan of holesaw + bumper - though appreciate there's some functional reasoning for it - have you considered some ducting from fog lights?

    Xenon lights misbehaving...

Honestly I don't have much more to contribute here - this problem almost lead to me getting rid of the car - so when it came to finally having a fault code for the front - I bought one and it sorted it. I can honestly say I think it's worth solving properly - the lights are amazing now :smile...
