Depends really on the spec really on cost, can range from 3k to 10k. Also doing a lot of the work yourself brings costs down. You could do it for 2k by doing all the work yourself and using a standard megane engine

It would, there can also be issues with the steering racks in these cars. My steering rack used to knock when I wiggled the wheel.

Jack the car up and wiggle the wheel. If it wiggles horizontal then it's track rods or steering rack. If it wiggles back and forth vertically it will be ball joints.

It will be the plug on the throttle. Give it a wiggle and restart the car.

Bad luck that, are you using another head? I'd want the valve guides replacing and the valve seats re-cut. You are in good hands with engine dynamics though

Not too hard to strip the box and the input shaft where the 3rd and 4th gear are on. That's just held together with curclip and a end nut which can be a bugger to get off. It would be worth to replace both bearings as well on the input shaft

I've had quite a bit of interest how I rebuilt my gearbox. I've started stripping my other gearbox so thought I would do a how to. I wonder if anyone would be interested in this if I decided to do one. For 3rd you won't need any special tools like a press.

Well it's looking like I'm going to have to transport the car back from Manchester with it still not working, the temptation to put back to standard and sell is strong.

It's not another engine, it's the one that came out my clio when I put the forged megane one in.

It's possible, all that would need doing is making up some aluminium covers and then machine the cover to match the new caps. Catcams do it on there solid lifter kit

I will do, gonna rebuild, new bearings etc. Might do some modifications to it, got some things in mind to improve it like cam shaft caps so the rocker cover can be removed without the cams falling out.
