Just be aware of the cost of maintenance for the Clio. They are great cars but do need some pricy maintenance items. You mentioned the gearbox, but also look at exhaust manifolds and the three ball joint per side suspension. Get those done and just enjoy it for what it is. :)

I would also check the map sensor is plugged in and sitting correctly. It plays a big role in the running of the car

Can I ask if you are running a new MAP sensor? My car did something similar, but at cold start where it would jump to 1500rpm then misfire and then rev up and then settle. I oil out my map sensor and noticed it was covered in film and cleaned it up and the area and then seated it firmly down...
