I suspect @RSRowe is correct when he says it's designed to hit the subframe in the event of a big impact. Maybe it helps push the main subframe back and down, away from the occupants.

Never mind, Google has answered that question! Tempting to cut it down, would make future maintenance easier.

Ok thanks. I guess the standard cross brace bolts to the standard subframe? Did the cup race cars have a cross brace, or am I making that up? Did that bolt to the radiator support, or just to the subframe?

Part of me did wonder this too actually. It's slightly annoying that it gets in the way of removing the lower arms. Does it have any other structural benefits other than just supporting the rad?

I'm just going to buy an eBay one for a normal Clio and move the bracket myself, rather than trying to source a genuine one. Luckily I can do that at home. When I asked RPD, they said they wouldn't ship one due to the size.

Yeah they do seem a bit crap. I assume mine is original as it has a bloody great hole in it lol

Oh ok, thought you may have put it there! Might well get one ordered and swap it over. Should do lower arms at the same time I guess, as a bush is a bit wonky.

Quick update. This is now fixed, was the nearside drive shaft.

I've been thinking about this as think mine are on the way out too. I'd like to go aftermarket and move the flexi under the car I think.

Yeah definitely worse than a wheel. Where did you get the new shaft? I haven't had a look at the intermediate bearing yet. It wasn't very appealing in a gale.

That sounds awfully like I need to jack the car up and have a look :tearsofjoy:
