Maybe my socket wouldn't fit in the space and I didn't have a spanner the right size, I don't remember.

I've had that problem on a 172 Cup before and semi fixed it with washers I made. Will have a look if I can find a socket that fits?

What size socket is needed to get the top of the mount off? My socket set is metric and when I went to take them off last time I couldn't find anything that fitted.

Just got the car back, still knocking!!!!! The guy went over every nut, bolt and bush under the car and says everything is fine. He did say the last thing I could do is have the ARB bushes out, grease them and put them back. But TBH I can't see it being that. I'm going to fit a new lower...

Yeah there's a Top stabalizer mount (as per video), and also a lower torque link (underneath the car at the back of the engine, looks like a dog bone). I fitted a new top stabilizer and had my torque link off and it appears that neither of these two parts are causing my knocking :(

My service is all up do date and it gets driven 80% under 3500rpm and 20% thrashing and once it settles it always stays on 24mpg.

Mines also '56 plate (34k) and also feels slow or fast randomly. If my old 172 Cup was anything to go by then the engine May loosen up over time and get a bit stronger with age, my Cup pulled like an absolute train. You're probably looking at £40-60 for a couple of power runs. Having mine...

To be honest mate I just don't think they're that fast, had mine a couple months and everytime I drive it it feels like its not as fast as it should be. Best thing for you to do is get a couple of dyno runs and see what sort of power its making, at least you'll know then. I came from a 270+ bhp...

If you read the thread properly you'll see that I've fitted a new one which didn't help at all. See here, page 5... And if anything, the knocking is twice as loud than it was to start with.

lol yeah just my luck, was looking forward ruling this out as the cause! Definitely being done Thursday morning so should have some news then, be it good or bad.

Part won't be in til tomorrow so won't be fitted til Thursday, will report back then.

Coil pack or injectior would surely only highlight an issue with one cylinder?

Thanks, I'm confident that the pipe was blocked securely but will leave the trumpet back on there for now and see what happens. Any suggestions are very helpful as they at least point me in the right direction. Just wish I had a decent local place that know the car/engine.

I know, i left the little valve in the car with the elcetrical plug connected and blanked off the vac hose with a bush that i turned up on a lathe. So i'm pretty sure its not related to that tbh. Will post a pic tomorrow of what i done. I've bypassed and blanked off a few valves and solenoids...
