    Another gearbox oil thread

Hi Only just saw this. What was suggested about the ATF is a pretty standard option in a manual gearbox, but with Sierras and Fords of that sort of age, the standard grade was pretty much the same viscosity as an ATF. What could be worth doing is using a mix of ATF with the MTL that is already...

The Advantages of Synthetic Oils over Mineral oils

Hi Motul 300V is one of the best oils around, so if you're happy with it for the engine, stick to that. You need an MTF for the gearbox and the best proven options are the Red Line MTL, Amsoil MTF or Fuchs Sintofluid. The Millers TRX 75w-80 and Motul Motylgear are good alternatives...

    Gear box oil

I think I got to 4 people about the GL4/GL5 thing by yesterday afternoon, it's a very common question now. Okay, if you go and buy the cheapest rubbish you can find on Ebay or in a motor factors, then there is a chance that it will contain the harmful additives. There is also one of the...

    Engine Oil... confused.

Hi As far as I can tell, they haven't used the right stuff. As it should be a 0710 spec oil, it should be a 5w-40. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-898-rn0710-oil.aspx There are a couple of Magnatecs that meet that spec, but they are 5w-40s If they've used a 5w-30, it explains why it's burning...

    advice on oil please

Hi If it's been filled with Millers from a performance car place, I would think they would have used either the CFS or CFS NT, although they come in 5w-40 rather than 0w-40. They do a longlife 0w-40 (not something we sell), so perhaps that has been used. It's fine to mix normal oils, it's...

    Engine Oil Viscosity

    Glad you like it

    Engine Oil Viscosity

Engine Oil Viscosity Viscosity is the most misunderstood aspect of oil and yet it is the most important. Viscosity is the force required to shear (break) the oil at a certain speed and temperature. Oils work because they have viscosity; the drag of a rotating part pulls oil from a low-pressure...

    Oil/pollen/air filter

As far as we are concerned, aftermarket filters are often just as good as the manufacturers ones. We sell thousands a year (6000 ish so far this year of the non-manufacturer ones) and I can't think of a problem with any where they have been fitted properly and changed when they should be. We've...

    What Oil to buy?

Hi As Shotgunsjay said, it takes a 5w-40. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XFS, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Gulf Formula G, Shell...

The Advantages of Synthetic Oils over Mineral oils

There's no reason why that should make the pedal squeak and two bottles should be enough, but I don't have the brake capacity listed. One of the guys on here that has done a fluid change on a clio will have a more accurate answer. Cheers Tim

The Advantages of Synthetic Oils over Mineral oils

I'd probably go for the Motul RBF600, Gulf RF800, Millers 300 Plus or Fuchs Pro Race. http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-450-brake-fluid-clutch-fluid.aspx Cheers Tim

The Advantages of Synthetic Oils over Mineral oils

Hi A lot of the above applies to the gearbox as well as engine. Being better at dealing with higher temperatures, more stable basestocks, better lubrication and better film strength will all help to protect gearboxes better than with a mineral oil. While gearbox oils don't have to deal with...
