    197: New Fiesta ST

Just come across this comparison which is quite interesting... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vBXiVd2kTFc Shows how much more flexible the turbo engine is in gear, but that's to be expected. When given the ability to use the revs though it really is quite close. I would have expected a...

    197: New Fiesta ST

Had a little play with one of these today between some roundabouts up through second and third gears, roughly 30-70mph. Not much in it at all! Expected the ST to start pulling away with the extra torque but it didn't really. Very impressed that my going on 9 year old 197 can keep pace with some...

    Creaky Steering

Yeah I've seen them myself, mine used to creak when stationary which made it easier to pinpoint where it was coming from. I'm having mine changed in a couple of weeks, both sides, by a local garage that's done them before on a few other Clios so hopefully they'll do a good job. Funnily enough...

    Clio 197 leak

My Advice would be to clean the area and see if it re-appears, also keep an eye on your oil levels for it dropping. Sometimes when mechanics change the oil they sometimes miss the hole, so oil ends up going over the top of the engine and eventually works its way down the sides and drips from...

    Creaky Steering

Could be anything, drop links get creaky when they start to go. Could also be the dreaded ball joint issue, mine started to creak and it turns out one of them is ****ed and the other side has play too. Luckily for me I've only had the car a few months and bought a warranty so they are being...

    mobiles.co.uk

In fairness they also show up on uswitch.com so if they were dodgy I doubt they'd be on there. I got my old S3 through them years ago and it was here the next day no issues. Carphone warehouse or other high street shops couldn't get close to the deal they gave. I've since sacked off contracts...

    possibility of camshaft adjustment

Where are you based? There must be a Renault Sport specialist somewhere that's not too far away? I drove a couple of hour up the M6 for mine to be done and booked the day off work! - Yeah I probably could have got it done closer to home but I felt safer taking it to someone who works on these...

    possibility of camshaft adjustment

If your worried about them not doing a proper job I'd be taking my car to a RS specialist in fairness. I'd choose a RS specialist over Renault any day me! - The price for a full belt, water pump and pulley change at Renault will be well in excess of a grand I bet. I had the job lot done at a...

    possibility of camshaft adjustment

The only time you would have to adjust them is if the timing was out? Timing can go out slightly as the belt ages/stretches but if it was out by loads you'd have serious running issues or the car wouldn't start. You are correct that the genuine Renault timing tool should be used to to lock the...

    Clio 197 ownership VERY disappointing

Glad to hear it's sorted itself out, when I first bought mine it didn't run as well as it does now but I put that down to it being stood for a few months and run on crap fuel. From what I've read you won't gain much with a remap in terms of pub talk bhp but it improves the drive ability and...

    New 197 owner

Looks tidy, I've changed the bulbs in mine. It's a bit of a PITA but doable, on the passenger side it's easier to remove the secondary intake snorkel. There's a how to guide on here under the how to section that helped me massively. Worth a read before you attempt it.

    200: KIA Cee'd GT

Looking at the specs from parkers they're quite lardy! That's the problem with a lot of modern cars, they might have the power but they also weigh a good 200kg more. So when you factor that in it's like having roughly 3 adult passangers lol. Power to weight ratio is where it's at!

    Plugs

My mate changed some plugs on his car a few weeks ago, looked like they hadn't been done since new. One of them ended up snapping in the block! - I'd say get some penetrant oil down the holes and let it soak in for a few hour before tackling them.

    Coolant Loss

Might sound like a stupid theory but will the pressure test taken into account the cars heating system? Did he do it with the heaters set to full/hot? That's the only other place I can think of where it might be leaking from that wouldn't get picked up by a pressure test if they were turned off.

    Coolant Loss

There's only two places it can go, out as a leak or mixing with the oil = blown head gasket! Any mayo like substances under the oil filler cap and/or coolant expansion cap?

    Oil engine *Poll

I've read how an engine was run in from new can effect how much oil it consumes, how true that is I don't know! Mileage can also have an impact, generally the higher milers you would expect to use more oil due to wear but again this isn't always true. My Clio hasn't needed a top up since I did...

    Oil engine *Poll

I always stick with the manufactures recommended oil, in this case ELF SXR 5w-40. I also always use genuine manufacture filters. Don't see the point in paying for expensive 'race' oils unless your running a highly tuned engine or the car is seeing a lot of track action. The standard stuff is...

    Clio 197 ownership VERY disappointing

In fairness if that's how you feel about the car already then my advice would be to sell it now, if you end up having to put money into it to fix issues you'll only end up hating it more! Would you not have another 182? You can pick them up for peanuts now and while there are quite a lot of...

    Clio 197 ownership VERY disappointing

The flat spot on mine is fairly bad when it's cold but it's got a Milltek cat back exhaust and a K&N panel filter on which I've read can make it worse. First time I drove it from a proper cold start I actually thought something was broken as it was kangaroo'in like mad. I've learnt to drive...

    So how come..........

If you bought the Clio for speed then you might be a bit disappointed. It's fast enough to be fun when you factor in the great chassis and brakes but hell, some modern diesels can give it a good spanking especially if they are remapped. ~190bhp really isn't that much these days in the grand...
