It's not dangerous no...point is it's usually over done as a requirement to get traction on the rollers, ie to prevent the wheel spinning so a reading can be obtained.

Yes, well hammering the straps down as much as poss just causes alot if unnecessary friction and heat. These are losses which can't accurately be accounted for, and more over can't be accurately replicated each time....as you said they weren't measured. Ideally there wants to be NO downward...

No chassis dyno is ever going to give a 100% true power reading....way too many variables, strapping force, tyre deformation, transmission temps etc etc etc... Best you can hope for is a realistic REPEATABLE figure. Consistency is key.
