Joe's LY Clio 200

Shud b propa sik m8!!

Nah in seriousness, it will be loud but if you're only doing short journeys it shouldn't be killer. It'd do my head in personally though lol.

Fair play to you if you keep it in longer than a week or two

Please don't get it mapped to do this, you might think it sounds good but the whole world will think you're a cock, girls will laugh and point at you, and people will make wanker signs from the pavement. It will impress nobody and it will sound shit.

@suj @Beany @Addison Haven't been active recently, sorry.

The cons massively outweigh the pros. I am not going to lie but, as Beany said, I want dem pops and bangs innit!

I've come to the decision I'll just swap the cat in and out for every MOT. If I have a specific overrun bang map, will this effect the cat during the MOT?

They don't rev cars to high revs and then run down, but it overfuels to pop and bang and might run rich so might affect emissions, also you will have to shortshift on trackdays. Your map will be for a car with no cat, so it will run differently with a map.
It's your car, I really dislike pops and bangs, also loud cars never seen the appeal, I know you're young etc but you'll be hated by the police and your locals....

I would consider keeping the secondary cat, getting it mapped and enjoying a less ASBO noise and car.
Also insurance aspect of not having a cat, but having one for MOT, i'm sure that won't go down well (as insurance tries to get out of paying at all costs).

Good luck with what you decide, at end of the day it is your car.

My commute is only 2 miles so nothing horrendous, Mrs is 4 miles away too so I rarely do long distance.

Thank you Iain. It will not be a specific bang map, like the crackle one @ ktec. Andy at Engine Dynamics is going to retune my original map to suit the decat, & then will tweak it slightly to make a bit more noise. I do appreciate your opinion though, you sound like my Mum!

Yeah I have thought about every aspect, good or bad, map is booked on the 11th of May so won't get it fitted until nearer the time. 85% certain I'll get it done.

Shouldn’t do if you just drive normal. I believe the bangs only activate under certain circumstances.

Have you considered investing in a RSTuner from www.fastchip.nl ?

It costs a few hundred quid but you get the ability to store maps on a laptop and upload the map you want to use to your car, when you want to use it. I think you would probably have to pay extra for more maps.

This set up would allow you to have a pops and crackles map, but also swap it out to a different map depending on your needs/circumstances.

I am sure there will be critics of the device/service suggesting that you cannot get a better map done unless the tuner is physically with your car and pushing its limits to see the responses. I have not got a RSTuner and like the concept, I am just unsure of how good the maps actually are from this service.

I have not considered it no. I'd rather stick to what has been proven to work. Andy had great reviews before I booked my first map in so I knew the car was in safe hands.

Whilst these sound like a good option and plenty of people have been happy with it, I'm pretty sure the guy who runs it (Henk, I believe) is an utter cockwomble.

I wouldn't give him my money after some of the things I've read personally!

Ah.

That’s not a glowing review.

I like the changeable driving modes on my Megane. You can drive around in normal mode and it is quiet and less aggressive, or switch it up to race mode and the car becomes like a coiled spring gagging to accelerate and has pops and crackles coming out of the exhaust as a standard factory setting.

It would be nice to get in the Clio and have a race mode button - but I guess that is a 200T type feature.

Yeah it’s easy to have switchable maps on boosted cars as you can control how much boost pressure per map so can afford the luxury of sensible and mental at the press of a button!

I think that’s the apppeal of the Clio as it’s always mental and the switch is your right foot

When I was out with my mate recently his friend met us and he’s got a clio 200 toyo manifold full decat and scorpion exhaust and it has a custom pop and bang map, in my opinion I think it sounded awesome mate and you can here the crackles and pops from ages away and it’s loud and sounds awesome. You do what makes you happy too mate if you want it loud have it loud and pop loud etc :thumb: I don’t think he got his mapped with engine dynamics I think it’s a local company too my area where he got it mapped

Okay so the decat pipe has been fitted. It is absolutely bonkers. I thought having a decat mani and a non-res backbox was loud but this is ridiculous! Shame the guy fitting it didn't take any photos of it fitted underneath even though I asked but all well. It gurgles and farts a little more than before but still doesn't tick my box for loud pops and bangs (Sorry Iain). Looking forward to my trip up to Engine Dynamics for a re-remap. Can't comment on the drone yet, but highly recommend a full decat system to anyone that enjoys heads turning at them as they drive.

You should upload some video of the noise from your exhaust.

Also, get a noise meter app on your phone and see how loud the exhaust is when you hold the revs at about 4,000. If you have got an Apple Watch they have handy noise app.

I will get a friend to record some fly-bys and me hooning it through a local tunnel soon, and get some videos of it banging after the 11th. I'm excited to see if it will flame when hot too. I shall see what the decibel reader says at 4000rpm and update it here. Is that how they record it at a trackday before you go out? Hold it at 4000rpm?

If they do a static noise test they measure the noise from about half to a whole metre away with you holding the revs at about three quarters of the rev range.

Depends on the track and where you redline, normally about 5500 if you redline at 7.5k.

Set off any car/bike alarms yet? Mine used to do it all the time, also made people scream! I have (mostly) grown up now though :tearsofjoy:
