Another flexi thread

Hi guys. Over the last few days my car has been making an awful noise, especially when it’s cold and I first start it. Sounds a bit like a lawnmower lol. I’m guessing it’s the manifold flexis but just want to get a second opinion from you guys. Cheers

It’ll just run rich and put some pretty nasty chemicals inside the cabin.
I’d get it fixed ASAP personally.

It’s a bit morbid, but there have been instances of people dying from CO poisoning

Yeah I’ve noticed it’s starting to smell like a Shell forecourt inside the car so probably not great for the health.
I’ve got it booked it to get the flexis done on Wednesday so hopefully the car (and me) last until then.
I currently only have the upper torque mount polybushed. Is it worth doing the lower one too while it’s there?

Hi Max,

I had this issue 6 weeks ago! Flexis were blown to #@?!
I got powerflex lower engine mount done at the same time too, as they will have to drop the subframe anyway. It reduces engine rocking quite a bit so will stop it happening again any time soon. You will have increased vibrations after though, but this will dull down after a few hundred miles or so.

Don't worry about driving it with blown flexis, I was a bit slow on the uptake and left it almost 6 months (driven daily!) A bit less mpg but everything else fine.

Okay perfect, that’s great to know thank you. I’m going to get them to drop the lower mount in at the same time too. Just took it for a drive to get some shopping and now it sounds like a spitfire so might avoid driving it purely due to the embarrassment hahah

Just as an update if anyone else has the same issue.
I got the flexis replaced at a local Renault specialist and the car is now back to normal.

Where did you get it done mate and what did it cost you in the end out of curiosity ?

I got it done by Steve at R&S autoservices in Lowestoft and it cost me £380 including servicing both my front and rear brakes and fitting powerflex engine mounts at the same time.
Can highly recommend Steve to anyone on here, a great guy who knows what he’s doing when it comes to RenaultSports. He also has a 182 converted Kangoo that he tracks which is reassuring

Hi sorry i know this is an old post, are the flexy’s part of the manifold and if so how are they replacing them, welding new ones in or changing the full manifold?
Thanks

Flexis are on the end of the manifold that goes under the car. You can buy new flexis, remove the old ones and have new flexis welded on the the exhaust manifold. This saves replacing the whole manifold.
