Have to give a massive shout-out to Stephen for lending me a hand in doing this and even taking the casing and cleaning it up for me. Super pleased with it and excited to see what all the fuss is about with an LSD!

Update!!

New gearbox is on. Old crunchy box gone! Over the moon and did it myself with the help of a couple mates so saved labour there and it's experience I guess

55b31e9e18e74a79098a5ac22e313d4f.jpg

So now the car has a 200 Cup steering rack, Quaife LSD in a rebuilt box, Black series ARB bushes, braided clutch line, new gen clutch and slave cylinder. All bled up with rbf 600 fluid.

Subframe with the new rack etc:

Old rack which both track rod ends actually had play after roughly 5k of driving! Both knocking side to side.

Old gearbox and slave which didn't look particularly healthy either. Unsure of the brand on that slave though. Good news is the previous owner did genuinely get the clutch changed before my ownership (which I was always sceptical about) and it had loads of meat left.

I'll strip this apart to see the state of the synchros in the next couple weeks and update on here.

Only thing I need now is an alignment, and I'm going to replace both anti rotation links and drop links again as there's a couple damaged boots and may aswell replace in pairs!

Only a year and a half without the box being done! [emoji23]

Shock. More parts! [emoji23]

Also, the quaife has transformed the car in corners. It's so much more confidence inspiring! The way it just pulls through a corner now is crazy!

Over the new few months I'm going to be sorting out a few little niggles with the car. Nothing major but I can't see me driving it much over winter9cb06db77bbc7bc6d2b701f1f556d367.jpg

Changed the dog bone mount over today and as you can see in the pics, the old one had seen better days.

Also the car has been running really rough occasionally and bogging down on me since doing the gearbox. After scanning it is showing the pre-cat sensor codes, not sure if it was unplugged or something and then not plugged back in when the subframe was put back on or what. Going to double check tomorrow. If not, I better trade a kidney to fund a new one! [emoji2359]

Does that Dog bone vibrate much?

Sent from my EVA-L09 using Tapatalk
To be honest, it doesn't feel as if it vibrates more than the old one did. I do have all inserts done on engine mount though

I was trying to explain to a mate of mine, the vibrations feel more solid and the other one felt "loose?". If that makes sense. Probably due to the split and the fact this one is brand new.

Turns out the lambda was actually just unplugged and I had missed this when putting the subframe back on. Doh. Live and learn!

Took it out for a drive and it's lovely not having it misfire on me! Hahaha. Feels really really good now though, it is unbelievable in the corners. And the new dogbone has made it feel so much tighter on gearchanges and the response is noticeably better over the old split dogbone!

Have a couple more parts turning up tomorrow also.

The only other thing I've noticed on my drive out the other day, occasionally it seems to be getting stuck in 3rd and 5th in particular. A quick search and it seems to be caused by linkages/cables coming out of the clip. So will double check they're fully clipped in this weekend

When you booking a trackday sunshine?

Car looks mint, waste of a Quaife if you don’t get it to Snetterton or Cadwell!
I've got a day off work booked for a track day but I haven't booked it yet, pending weather! Only Abingdon mind.

Thanks mate [emoji23] I'd love cadwell, but that's about 6 hours away haha

Bedford’s a good starter track to calm any nerves about doing it. Hit the button and book it!

Do what a group of us do, make a weekend of it, well worth it.

Yeah I'll go there at some point too! That's about 2.5 hours from me, Abingdon is only an hour and it's cheap hence why I'm thinking of going there!

With all the hassle of getting the airbag off to change my old squib I decided "Can't be arsed with this anymore, I'm buying a new wheel"

So I bought a new wheel

And I'm glad I did
7164103a0f689787b55e9a17e1ff9a90.jpg

It looks so much better than the stock one, just driven with it for the first time today and it is so good, I feel like I have way more grip on the wheel than before

Annoyingly the boss kit only came with one resistor, so I'm needing to order some off of eBay, if they don't work I have it booked in at ktec to figure out why my esp light keeps coming on and going off anyway, so I'll have to ask them to code the airbag light out too. But that's not till the 14th of Dec, so gives me plenty time to try figure out myself!

Today was also the second drive with the new dogbone and thoughts are still positive. Would recommend one over powerflex inserts if you can deal with the vibrations when pulling away!

Also I forgot to mention,

The gear issue I had with it getting stuck in 3rd and 5th, the cable on the side of the box wasn't fully in to it's "clip/mount"

Had all the battery etc out yesterday and got that fully in, changed the reverse sensor also.

So now it's not telling me to select neutral when starting the car and also the gearbox is back to being smooth as anything!

Well...

First time the car has properly let me down tonight

Drove to drop something off no issues, parked up, car off, 2 minutes later won't start.

Getting a clicking noise from the starter, not sure if it's this that's causing it or what.

Few things I have to check from a post on the Facebook group, but all of a sudden I'm very sick of this car haha00dcaf5d326d7adb6fb92c9a658115be.jpg

Check the crankshaft sensor in the gearbox, a few people have had it break on them (either fail or the end has been damaged by the flywheel).

Suppose it's worth me giving it a check, it is brand new though! Changed it about 3 weeks ago with the new gearbox!

Current situation!

71ec90afc5743158704accd7548d8fee.jpg

Changed the starter relay, tested voltage on the exciter wire, seemed fine, tomorrow I'm testing the voltage on the main cable to the starter

While I had all the battery etc out I decided to change the yellow gearbox insert for a black one, that I got from euros for £19! Funnily enough replaced the gearbox mount on a friend's MK2 Mégane and the mounts are literally identical. So he has my old yellow insert now![emoji23]

While the car is in the air I decided I'll do what a couple others have done and chop the rad support down and give it a fresh coat of hammerite, drop the coolant and I also have an oil and filter kit on the way from rpd.

Does anyone know if I'll actually be able to get all of the coolant out? I don't want to have some old stuff left in there but I obviously can't run it through with water etc because it won't start haha!

Still diagnosing whatever has happened to my car and the reason why it won't start [emoji28]

The exciter wire in the upc will get near 12v but on the starter it's getting like 0.8 volts?

Yesterday while testing also I pulled the rad support off and started painting with hammerite. I've got 4 coats on now for good measure!

23b21b4d14f29c0229e4ab6c6e3c4ecb.jpg

While I was there tonight I changed the oil and I have coolant ready to be dropped too. The oil was pretty black considering it has done 4k since January when it was last changed. I plan on taking it to ktec next month too to keep up the yearly stamps, but I figured for the price of a service kit it was worth doing anyway.
