Clio 197 Washer Pump / Washer Jet Fault

Hi - I have an MOT coming up and my windscreen washer jets have decided to stop working.

Does anyone have an idea what the issue could be?

If it helps, the washer jets seems to be working ok on the two front cornering lights.

Thanks

Be worth just trying to see if you can put a pin in the end of the jets to test if they're blocked up

Try taking the hoses off the jets and seeing if water comes through too

Like a process of elimination essentially

Thanks I’ve tried unblocking the jets but no luck. It seems strange that the jets work or cornering lights but not the front or rear wiper jets.

A few other posts suggest possible pump or fuse issue but with the cornering jets working, I’m unsure if a pump/fuse would be the issue for me as I assume they all run on the same pump/fuse?

Thanks

There are two pumps if you have headlight washer jets one does the front and rear and the other the headlights for a quick fix swap the pumps to get the windscreen going pay the £5 membership to get access to the "how to" section info there on bumper removal etc will help before you break a clip or something getting at the washer bottle. Or switch the pipes over along with the electric pump connector thus switching the pumps job.

Thanks for the detailed response! Much appreciated. Makes sense now that there are two pumps. Is it possible/easy enough to get to main pump (for front & rear jets) through the wheel arch to save taking off the bumper?

That's what I don't know for sure best to have a pump ready if going to the trouble any mk3 pump should do, careful removing pump if you lever it you will split the bottle hole and the bottles are rare to find with 2 pumps.

I had this. Hope you have it sorted by now, but if not, I didn't remove the bumper to change my pump. I just undid a bit of the arch liner, pulled it back a bit, and had enough access to the water bottle / pump, I was able to swap it out no problem. Just make sure you have a bucket or something to catch all the screenwash.

Not sure if that was actually the issue though, as when I had it out, I tested it, and it worked ok. Swapped pump anyway, and then it didn't work again. Have to investigate further. Intermittent problem though. So gonna try blowing back down the jets later, see if it cleans something out.

I just replaced the washer pump on mine as it decided to fail the day after I bought the car. I can't stress enough how useful it is to have a cheapo multi-meter in these situations. All I had to do was disconnect the power cable from the pump and measure the voltage when the switches were operated. Straight away was able to tell that the issue was with the pump. Replacement sourced from eBay for £7.
