B pillar vinyl removal

Just need to know if anyone has removed their old ones and if so what did they successfully use?
Wondered if a heat gun would be better than a hairdryer to loosen the adhesive? What sort of scraper etc etc

They are an absolute ballache to remove. My advice would be a heat gun to soften it up and start peeling from the top. Peel slowly, and then spray the tar/glue remover behind the vinyl, letting it run into the glue. Rinse and repeat and it should be easy to remove.

When I removed mine, it came off in tiny pieces, so I used a sharp blade very carefully and picked pieces off.

Sounds wonderful:grinning:

I'm prepared for it to be a ball ache. I half knew it would.

What adhesive/tar remover did you use? I've got some evo stick remover which is pretty strong stuff

No mate, but we need to! Ours are looking pretty grubby and have a couple of bits where it has scratched off.

In the how to on here, the guy just wrapped straight over the top of his existing. Not sure I'd be happy with that mind.

Good luck Ben, I can imagine it being a huge ballache and that it comes off in tiny bits.

Autosmart Tardis. Comes in 5 litres and is about £15 from your local rep. If not, Halfords do Autoglym tar remover (not as good but for anything better you need to order online)

A word of warning, if it does come off in bits, you'll be finding little small balls of glue everywhere for a few weeks :tongueout:

I did mine on a very hot day and also used a hair dryer, it just pulled off easy in almost one strip and barley any residue left, what residue was left I just rolled off with my finger and then little polish after. Probably easiest job I've done!

I've heard people as above say there are tricky, so I would advise doing it with lots of heat if it's not a hot day. As said when I did mine it was mid summer (+25) a couple of years ago, I've got the other side to do this year so will wait for summer again for sure.

Heatgun / hairdryer for me. I think i also poured boiling water over them to soften them up (All on my thread somewhere with pictures). I used my fingernails only to pick the old ones off. But something like a really soft piece of wood or even a credit card might help get the stubborn....and i mean stubborn....bits off without scratching or marking paintwork.

Not the nicest job ever. But if they were faded like mine - worth the effort. Whether replacing or leaving off like i did.

Took approx 45 mins per side to get it all off. I then used Autoglym SRP on the paint and sealed as per the rest of the paintwork.

And yes - the mess does take some cleaning up. Enjoy that job Ben !

That really helped speed up the removal without scratching.

Secondly, the replacement looks alright, right?:

With the window seal pealed of I didn't realise the gap and misjudged how far over to position the sticker, what a d1ck! So it's stuck showing white at the bottom now. Live and learn! If in doubt move it over more towards the window!
