197: A new record miles to a tank/mpg

470 miles to a tank!

This weekend I was fortunate enough to get the clio renault sport on the road for some serious mileage and corners...

I went to brecon beacons saturday morning for a hoon, driving from the southampton area. Epic weather for wales, 28 sunny and importantly dry roads. Fair but of traffic along the way it awesome scenery and roads.

Drove up at 70ish managed 38 mpg, it was warm 20+ no headwind and no a/c it's broken. Drove around had a moment on the black mountain road a4079, hit a rock which litter the roadside, messed up a wheel so backed off a bit on the speed. Drove back nursing the fuel full eco mode!!! Left with range of 110 to do 170 mile drive back and made it back home with 10 miles left it I said.

Full tank of Tesco momentum. Dash said 37 mpg for total journey, massively surprised, once warmed up the cars not too bad, long trip needed.


What are your guys thoughts?

Yes only had the car four months, but city driving is dreadful as is a cold start sunday morning 30 miles fast road drive. Well compared to my previous car of equal power mk7 gti, that would happily do 45mpg at 70mph on a 20 mile plus trip.

But in third gear through the winding roads of wales was epic. And the tight slow bends it has so much grip car feels so taught, you can lock the steering wheel tighter and tighter and it just grips.
