My LY 200

This afternoons been spent doing a little maintenance, brake change on the front and a little clean and check in and around the front arches along with re-protecting the coilovers with more ACF50. Its not something I’m particularly bothered about as long as they’re working as they should but I was a bit disappointed at how bad the damper bodies have got it such a short space of time and fairly few miles, especially considering they’ve been protected with ACF50 in the past.

Had them quite a while now when I first fitted them (and set them up correctly) I had it on H&R springs which were as we all know very bouncy. Taking the pre load off the anti roll bar seemed to settle it down a bit. These also seemed to make turn in sharper, I can remember at first I was having to turn out of corners a little as the car turned more than expected. How much of this was down to replacing old drop links with these new ones I don’t know but I’m happy with them.

Okay cool! I'm trying to decide whether it's worth doing or not. It makes sense to have shorter if you've lowered the ride height I guess!

Time for a little update although it’s just one to say freshly re-surfaced tracks are all well and good being grippy and smooth but my god do they kick up some tar!!!!!

So most of a bottle of tar remover around the whole car later and....

Overall it was a good day and I’m sure some of you will have heard by now about a Focus Cup team “testing” at Croft on the 1st of July, which didn’t go down well with the organiser - I think it’s resulted in lifetime bans for them all. And rightly so given the trouble they caused with dropped oil, bonnets flying open down the main straight, running out of fuel and one ending up on its roof!

Anyway, my car was faultless all day at least but it’s pretty much finished off the AD08R’s as expected. So I need to decide what’s going on next. At the moment I’m leaning towards another set but the newer version. I did have one quite lucky escape when following an Impreza down the back straight when it’s bonnet scoop decided it didn’t want to be a bonnet scoop anymore. It went up and over their car and luckily I was close enough to them that I went under it too.

Croft sounded really exciting!!!

Not sure if you use track wheels or just turn up and race?

Yokos would be my choice for road use occasional track.

If it’s just track wheels then I’d highly recommend Dunlop Direzzas. Can be got for £600 delivered and you’d be amazed at the difference over Yokos. I was.
On the down side they are sketchy in any drizzle and dread to think what would happen if it was wet conditions.

Probably the most eventful day I’ve done to say the least.

I’ve got two sets of wheels, one with AD08’s on and another with PS4’s. Usually I’d have the AD08’s on apart from through the winter. I do keep considering a proper semi-slick just for track but then I like the AD08’s way more than the PS4’s even on the road. I think the mrs would flip if I bought a third set of wheels just for semi-slicks.

Haven't been on here for quite a while, surprised at how quiet it's been. I was expecting thousands of un-read posts.

Nothing much to report car wise, all is well. No new parts, no road trips but I did manage to get up to Knockhill at the start of October with a few mates. First time I've been there for a trackday and definitely won't be the last, it's a great little track, thoroughly recommend for anyone who hasn't been. The day was mixed weather wise and surprisingly quiet. Started off wet, drying towards lunch time and rained again mid afternoon. It's the first time I've been out on track as it started to rain, it came in quite slow too but was heavy, soaking the lower part of the circuit whilst the upper part stayed completely dry for a good few laps - quite a challenge! Car was faultless all day but unfortunately my mates wasn't, his broke down mid morning and with no spares at any nearby garages which resulted in a bit of an ordeal for him and another getting home around 3am compared to me and my passenger at 9pm. But credit to The AA they did get him and the car back from the track to his home just south of Newcastle eventually.

We managed to spot a BTCC driver whilst there so that takes my tally to two different BTCC drivers at two different trackdays. Sadly neither of them were driving so I stood no chance of seeing how slow I was compared to them :tearsofjoy:

Aint Knockhill dirty though..........

Well it’s been a while since I’ve been on here, just read through all the posts I’ve missed, good to see some of the projects still going on. As for mine there’s not been that much happening. I had a strange issue back in January, I had a knock suddenly appear which sounded fairly high up on the drivers side and I eventually found the torque link a little loose. Went to tighten it and the bolt was just spinning - oh joy! Weirdly though it hadn’t been touched for at least a year, eventually got the bolt out to find it had stripped the thread in the upper part of the mount bracket. Managed to wind the stripped thread off the bolt and source a replacement bracket after a week or so but in the meantime I borrowed a car from a mate and got to do a little comparison.

Result of the comparison, the Clio is the better drive, more fun, more adjustable. My first time driving something with vtec, the engine is good I totally get the hype. The interior definitely better but that’s hardly a surprise ha! But I couldn’t get perfectly comfortable in it, it didn’t seem to matter where I adjusted things there was always at least one control that wasn’t quite where I’d like it. IMG_3370.jpg

Since the mount got fixed there’s been nothing to report but as a result of the lockdown I’ve been doing various little bits.

First was a good wash but now it’s sat for a few weeks it’s covered in dirt again!

Next was to do something that’s been annoying me for a while. The wiper arms were covered in little chips somehow so a nice coat of fresh paint was in order. It not the best finish in the world but much better than it was. Here’s a before, during and after. IMG_5360.jpg

The next job was a new stud kit from pms as well as some new front callipers to replace my battered ones and some new DS1.11 pads. They were supposedly refurbs from rpd but I’m convinced they’re new. The finish on them is perfect.
