Big Bens non Clio

Skip the first 3 minutes
Tyres seem fine Nick no argument there. Not really a direct comparison to my car though which is considerably quicker round Donington than the one being driven in that video. Dunlop’s work great on my Clio. Bit risky jumping to MRF for the sake of £100 saving is how I feel at the minute.
Thanks for your info though

Update:

Selling original leather seats (see for sale section) to raise funds for maintenance/track time.

Have purchased Winmax W3 rear pads to go in. New engine oil and filter and new plugs. Bit of preventative measure rather than outright need.
I did attempt the rear pads myself but one of the bolts was a bitch so I’ll leave it to the experts and book it in somewhere!

Have booked Cadwell Park for August 25th. Not likely to go out on track before then as it’s always too hot and too dear during the summer months.

Contemplating ktec harness bar and harnesses as my next big splurge. Not really interested in a cage atm.

KTECs Harness bar isn't worth the money Ben, I would just forget about it and get a half cage in the future, the normal belt will be fine with the Recaros.

Also seeing as the price is basically a half cage from most places, it's not like money is the problem, it's the fact you lose the rear usage which I totally get.

I personally would half cage + harnesses + fixed seats, all in 1 go

Hi Suj.
Isn’t worth the money as in it’s a poor product or just over priced?
The reason for not going cage is having to cut the rear carpet and interior about which I don’t want. Plus it adds weight!
I’m not set on out and out trackcar. More Clubsport:grinning:

Both tbh, it's just shy of £500, this is what R27WTF charges for a rear cage, also it will triangulate forces over a broader space, it also adds rigidity and safety, the bar does not (also their cage isn't great either IMO).

Yes it adds more weight, but if you put in 2x fixed seats, these will be offset (still the cage will weight a bit more) but adding safety will offset that extra weight IMO.

Oh totally agree about not being a trackcar, but if you are going harnesses etc, then it more or less is, I would just stick to the belts and Recaros for now, spend more time enjoying the car.

If you want harnesses for slipping about, have you thought about CG-Lock (I think they no longer sell them, but they come up on ebay / forums / might be alternatives).
It works with a standard belt, you can then lock it tighter, which cuts down your movement massively, I had one years ago and it was soooo good!

Maybe I’ll try one!
I’ve been aware of them for a while. Good to hear a positive review from someone who’s used one.

Booked evening session at Brands Hatch 16th July with Opentrack.

Never done Brands looking forward to ticking it off. Less than an hour from me so about time I did it!

Son is coming with me as a passenger. Hope he gets a taste for it and wants to have a go:grinning:

Indy circuit is great fun. You are always "on it". Seems you're barely out of one bend when you're entering the next one. A circuit I don't mind travelling the length of UK to drive. Partly because I used to go as a spectator maybe 10 times a year when I lived down south. I'm considering doing the GP circuit in August to tick that box. Pricey at £310 (I think) but when I'm driving down from Scotland anyway the price is all relative to petrol money.

Looks good fun John. My only concern is amount of traffic on circuit. Watched a YouTube video of @Yiannis197 last year and he was constantly battling traffic issues!

Yeah, I've always done sessions with MSVT & the number of cars didn't seem to be an issue. Did see a Lambo being refused on track as he couldn't pass the noise test. Pity as it would've been interesting to see it driven in anger.

Brands Hatch went well Tuesday night. Took my son out with me for the first time which made it even better.

Was hot and busy which led to some pretty dubious driving from some of the yuppies in their six figure German power saloons! Straight line warriors

Never been to BH before and was surprised at the elevation changes. Paddock Hill bend in particular took a bit of nerve to go quick! Circuit in general was excellent. Think I might get bored doing the Indy for a whole day though. Ideal for just an evening imo.

Used Harry’s Lap Timer (tut tut) and managed a best lap of 0:56.47 which felt pretty good. I’m often asked about lap times and never had a clue. With the new app can now at least check at the end of the day to see how much slower I’ve got:grinning:

Cadwell 25/08 next. Can’t wait
