Hi, I have recently become a member of this forum and have begun reading into converting a standard Clio 197 into a 225 conversion. However, whilst I have the engine out of the car (225) I am hoping to refurbish and forge it. The reason for this thread is for a place to track the progress of my 197 and to see what it can eventually become.
Also I was hoping to ask for the opinions on the build I am planning for my car, as I am relatively new to all of this.
for the 225 engine I was planning to uprate/forge:
Hybrid turbo,
630cc Siem Dekker fuel injectors,
Intercooler,
Turbo 3" back exhaust,
Induction kit,
Pistons,
Con-rods.
Obviously I will also replenish any worn parts during the refurbish as well. I was wanting to know if everyone thought that with this build I would be able to reliably generate 280BHP and 280lb torque?

I would really appreciate any feedback that anyone could give, and would like to say thank you in advance to anyone willing to help!
Tom

Hi Tom.

If rebuilt correctly with the correct mapping you should comfortably see a reliable 300/300+ out of a forged engine with hybrid turbo.

Good luck. Look forward to your progress

Hi Ben,
I was hoping you could advise if I am proposing the correct areas to forge. I am trying to uprate all the weaker parts of the engine. The only one I believe I may of missed out is an uprated fuel system. But I heard they are expensive.

Cheers Tom!

I'd start with deciding what power you want. Is it 270? If so no need for all the expense. Good cooling setup and you'll be fine.
Go and drive one first see if you could tell the difference between 270 and 300.
Use the money for other areas of the car IMO

I was more after the fact of uprating the parts not to push the power of the engine but to increase the longevity of the car. After completing the work on the car I am hoping the keep good care of it for quite a few year (aslong as I can) and try to use it rarely for fun. Do you think its worth while doing this?

I've gone through the conversion and fine it all myself.
Similar spec as you were mentioning, had mine mapped at Efi, running, 304bhp and 298lb/ft but it lasted 1000 miles.

Due to a noisy lifter but turned out the cams had picked up in the head and there was excess silicone. So currently forging an engine, having my r26 gearbox rebuilt. So should be nothing left to chance. Can't wait to drive it again, it's a blast!!

There's plenty of people on here who'll give advice as needed.

Did you fit the engine yourself? And originally did you refurb or forge the engine?
The uprated parts I've selected are to hopefully overcome the weaker parts of the original 225 engine. If you are interested I found a Wossner piston and conrod set for around £800-900.
To be honest I'm not the most mechanically minded and I'm only 21 years old so I have been doing a lot of reading around the subject.
Any help you could provide would be much appreciated Mark as I really want the best outcome for my car.

@Tomas Link Originally I did as much as I could without going too far, I replaced crank and cam seals, cambelt kit I even fitted arp conrods. Cleaned and painted everything.

I Have purchased all the parts to rebuild my engine including wossner pistons and pec conrods, gasket sets, head bolts, cam belt kit and water pump through a person on facebook who is an engine builder. Total cost was £1150. I may add some catcams springs to that incase I go near the 350bhp mark.

I did all of the conversion myself.

If you look at my thread you'll see some of the things I did.
Mark's 197 T Cup.

My meglio is running 270bhp 280ftlb mapped by RS tuning on STD r26 engine r26 gearbox with diff and SMF r26r clutch
Rear stripped out half cage and buckets and it's a right blast
I had a review done by Jamie fyd on YouTube if you wanna look it up7d28be8d03d31d042c25fe2a2eec072a.jpg
