I'll be using the same process that I used when respraying my front grilles.

1. Clean the diffuser with washing up liquid/car shampoo
2. Use a grey scotchbrite pad with little pressure to key the surface (as this will help retain the factory "dimpled" finish)
3. clean with washing up liquid/car shampoo to get rid of any grease/dust
4. Spray a few coats of primer
5. Spray a few coats of colour

I used halfords own brand primer and satin black for my grilles and had no issues with the paint. It's always worth putting the cans in warm water as this improves the spray pattern.
