New Manifold Advice

Looking to buy a new manifold as I keep having flexi issue’s and I just want the problem solved permanently. So I just wondered if anyone has put the predator kam racing manifold, pure motorsports manifold, or ktec racing manifold on their 197? And if so what’s your experience with it been like? Also would there be any chance of failing mot on emissions with either of these manifolds? I currently have an aftermarket manifold on the car, its not a toyo because it isn’t stainless steel so I’m not sure what it is really.

There has been a few bad reviews over the facebook pages regarding the predator manifold but I dont know if it was a one off or not.

If you want bang for your buck then Pure & K-tec are the way forward.
If you want a cheap easy fix a Toyo from ebay will do the job but it will prob need changing about in a few years.

Im personally going for a Toyo as mine has been on the car 4 years and its only now starting to get back.
Im happy to pay £150 every 4 years for a manifold

Sorry to hijack this one - Marc, how easy is it to fit the toyo? And did you need to map thr car after?

Saw a few reviews about fitting saying it can hit the subframe sometimes as it's a few mm out etc. Haven't really seen many people talk about what they did after fitting a toyo mani regarding mapping etc.

Jay - could you let me know which one you go for and a quick line on how you find it? Also looking into changing mine soon so your review will be helpful!

I really like the look of the pure motorsports and predator mani purely because they elimnate the flexi’s, but Im not sure about the compatabilty of the pure motorsports mani with other brands of cat-back exhausts. Ktec states that their manifold will be compatible with various exhuast systems but Im put off the ktec because of the presence of a flexi.

I have the toyosports manifold

You need to cut a notch about 2 inch wide and about 5mm deep to get it to miss the subframe.
Easily doable with a dremmel or a grinding disc.

Makes the car sound lovely and i would say i needs mapping also.

Also what @MarcB says the bang for buck on the toyo is worth the money they are proven aswell so not a cheapo manifold where you will have issues.

@Frank Perry it was on the car when I bought it so I never done the work.
As I have spent near on £300+ just on nuts and bolts and replaced almost every suspension part on my car its going to be an easy job providing the studs in the manifold itself are fine and dont snap but my garage said it should be ok as its been changed before.

As its been said a small part needs cut away and to be honest its not that big or much , Just make sure you put a lick of hammerite over it once its been cut out.

As its been pointed out its cheap buts its decent, £150 for near on 4 years is good value for money.

My garage have fitted the K-Tec one and said its the best they have seen by far and a very very good and it sounds amazing.

If money was no object it would be a toss up between Pure & k-tec and I would lean towards k-tec as its got the correct olive joint for things like Miltek's & standard 197 / 200 exhausts.

Hi Frank following up on this post-
I ended up going for a Ktec manifold and powerflex engine mounts. I put in the lower, upper and torque arm engine mounts. I was worried about the vibrations everyone has been talking about that comes with uprating the mounts but I found them to not be an issue at all, in fact the car feels much more solid. With regards to the manifold, the ktec didn’t join properly with my oem exhaust. It just didn’t reach far enough so the mechanic had to clamp it and now its perfect. With regards to Performance there is a noticeable increase in torque and the engine sounds much more aggressive. I haven’t even remapped mine and it still feels great, a definte improvement over the manifold I had in before.

Sorry to hijack also! I'm pretty sure the flexi are going on mine and I'm thinking best to get a aftermarket mani. What the deal with the catalyst? Are you guys putting the old mani back on come MOT time?

Hi you can still pass mot with an aftermarket manifold as long as you still have your other cat in. Changing the manifold from original to aftermarket removes the pre-cat but you should still have another cat further down your exhaust.

My manifold is problematic as well.. it must be leaking as the sound is a lot louder than before, so maybe the flexi are acting up, the reworked manifold was done a year ago and now I'm getting concerned about another repair, last one cost be around 150 quid.

Awesome thanks for the reply. Seems a lot of people are getting the Toyo manifold but can't seem to find it anywhere to buy anymore... The KTR one is also recommended but the cost is rather high!
