Road tyre recommendations

Thanks for the replies everyone. What about Uniroyal Rainsports? I read somewhere on here they don't last that long?
From what i've read, they're great in the wet but wear quickly due to being a softer tyre. Then again it depends on your driving style. Not sure if i'd run the rainsports in the summer but definitely would in the winter if I had two sets of wheels.

Well I'm not up to date on current prices, but I loved my Continental Contisport 5s, & also the Contisport 3s before these. @sevenfourate probably has a point in advising you consider 6s!

I wrote this on another forum where someone was asking if they should fit Michelin or Kumho.

There is absolutely no doubt that the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is a very good tyre. The value of that to you is in how you measure those values. The Kumho is also a very competent tyre. Will the Michelin get you round a roundabout on the limit 2mph faster than the Kumho on the limit. Possibly, but unless that is your thing, do you assign a value to that? The same with braking, noise, looks etc, etc. Until you push the capabilities of something, you don't know how valuable that capability is to you. Price is also a value and that will also depend on how that matters to you.

The Michelin is undoubtably the darling of the internet at the moment but "best" can only be defined if you have a set of objectives and and way to measure if that is achieved against others. For every "test" saying the Michelin is best, there are others saying different.

If you want tyres with good all-round performance at a lower price than Michelin then, were you to come to me in Northampton then Kumho PS71 would cost you £274 and Hankook S1 would cost you £320.

I'm almost in the market for some new tyres. I've never been on a track, not really sure if I intend to yet, either. I'm a pretty sensible driver, but I enjoy some spirited fast b roads every now and again. Currently running 3 different tyres from the previous owner and a couple are showing signs of cracking on the sidewall, so interested in getting some soon.

Are PS4s the be all and end all? Is there anything cheaper that are not quite as good as PS4s?

What size tyres do standard 200 cup wheels take, do some people go slightly wider?

Have you got some new rubber yet; or made a decision ?

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 in 225/45/17 are just under £290 for 4 fitted if you use code EASTER10 at checkout at the moment. Thats pretty good value for money in my opinion

Where are in the East Midlands?
South Leicestershire.

Still not made a decision, not in a huge rush although I do want to get my wheels refurbed soon. So it would be nice to get new tyres on at the same time.

Good shout I'll check these out thank you.

Rainsports are great - ran them on old Clio
PS4s is what I run on my e92 m3 - amazing tyre. I won’t run anything else on it.
On my meglio I run the new federal 595 rsr-pro but this car sees both road and track.

All depends on budget. Falken zex914 are dirt cheap and unless you drive ridiculously hard on the road will more than suffice.

And just to add... tyre-leader is probably the cheapest place you will all find for tyres. They also sell wheels.

I bought mine from there

Thanks for all the input everyone. I ended up buying some speedlines off here fronts with asymetric 3 and rears with 2 with decent amount of tred left.

Thinking of wrapping my cup wheels with rainsports though.
