2012 clio 3RS RB7 #166

SUPER.
how did the cup2s perform?

best tyre ever, james!

well tbf, not bad really. i kept the pressures up this time and the weather was much cooler now than last august, which must have helped as well. that said, they still don't inspire confidence under heavy braking. my brother joined me in the afternoon and the first thing he mentioned was how 'lively' the clio behaved under braking.

i'm going to swap them over front to back and try to get another trackday out of them, in a couple of weeks. after that it's back to yokohama AD08R's. though i still think the cup2 is a better 'rain tyre' than the yoko.

found an interesting video a while back. i know the AR-1 is a true semi slick, but still ...

I see your soft side walls and raise you these!

The thing is that the Pilot Sport Cup is only Michelin's AD08. It is the tyre you put on your Porsche or BMW when you want to go and have a bit of a play and still drive back to the hotel in comfort.
A less stiff tyre will generally be more forgiving and less edgy on the limit, again something quite sensible in the driver market that these are aimed at.
AR1 with wear out and peel just the same

Well, that is not stock suspension but more to the point, you don't have to have no body roll to exploit tyres.

finally got round to do something about the black badges i have on the car for about two and a half years now. the rear badge in particular was in a sorry state (see photo). no idea why it got all scratched up, maybe because of all the grit the car throws up? also the front one had a nasty stain on it, so decided to plastidip them both. and while i was at it, the RS badge got a couple of coats as well.

it's not perfectly done, but it'll do for now. quite like the badges being mat black.
curious to see how long they last.

one more 'souvenir' photo ...

it's on the car for the last two weeks and it probably looks completely stupid when driving around, but hey ...

Nice touches Peter. Photos were a bit iffy though mate. Need a proper camera or something:grinning:

car has been mot'd for another year.

while changing the wheels and tyres, i saw that on the front cup 2's, the threads were falling apart. so ordered four new yokohama AD08RS. got them delivered today and hope to get them mounted next saturday.

clio has seen almost no track action this year. will be going to bilster berg next month (9 november) though. first time there. track looks brilliant from the videos i've seen on you tube.

the renault engineer who designed the front of a 200, should be shot.

two hours it took me to change the bloody light bulb (left hand side). two f****** hours, several cuts on both hands and a lot of swearing. next time a bulb blows, i'm selling the car.

except ... i didn't. :flushed:
so, while at bilster berg the right hand side bulb blew. luckily much easier to reach and to replace. ten minute job.

bilster berg ... what a brilliant track. had a great day (with opentrack.co.uk). car performed faultlessly.
only the second time on track this year. hope to do more next year.

i bought a (cheap) action cam just days before going. the video doesn't do the track justice ...

and some photos (by robert baxter) ...
