Lewis's RB Clio 197

Bit of a shit update

The TRW top mounts I ordered from euro car parts ended up being corteco ones. They sent the complete wrong ones

So I figured "why not buy some Compbrake adjustable ones? [emoji2371]"

So I did.

Went about fitting them and all was well. Took about 4 hours to do one side yesterday as I was messing about too much [emoji23]

This morning I set about doing the other side, and it took about an hour. However the nuts did not look tight enough on the shock so I grabbed an impact and that's where it all went wrong.

Top of the B14 snapped..

So now I can't even test drive the car with the new top mounts..

Although I did get spacers back on the front

Looks mean again and I don't have studs sticking 6ft out of each side

Also got new rear window seals (Or whatever they're called)

Oh and a couple pictures of max camber just because..

For the time being the car is now unable to be driven so I've contacted bilstein in the hopes they can sell me a singular shock.

But yeah.. I'm very annoyed.

Just to add insult to my injury

This is a photo of how it was before I put the impact on it. (Correctly done up basically)

But the nut didn't look far enough on to me! So I essentially MASSIVELY over tightened. Hence the snappage. 98e7d798df4392615d897d91cde0bc66.jpg

That’s a bit crap, hopefully they’ll sell you a single damper, or at least a front pair. I can totally see why you wanted to tighten that further, it doesn’t look secure at all.

Yep :worried: Couldn't believe it mate.

They replied to me this morning and have quoted me £145+ VAT.223712409401b99ed9369c0907813c51.jpg

Pulled the shock out tonight.

Went out at about 7 and moved both cars round, had everything packed away by 8. Was quite impressed with myself! Hate to say it after yesterday's performance but I'm definitely getting better! [emoji23]162d2b00513f37e30397716b60a3744e.jpg

Nothing like a chock of wood to hold something up../ hope it gets sorted soon
[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] That's just supporting the hub mate! I've got some cable ties back there too but you can't see them. Trying to prevent the hub from falling and pulling the shaft out the gearbox

Last thing I want is gearbox oil all over the driveway (Though it probably could do with being changed)

Emailed bilstein as I was expecting to have heard back from them by now only to be told that the machinist is away next week and the shock won't be ready until the 1st of April! [emoji34]

Considering they've had it all week and done nothing with it has slightly pissed me off to say the least.

Who's is the motorbike in the garage?
My dad's mate!

I don't know a whole lot about bikes if I'm honest, but it's a 2000/2001 Honda VFR 800 I think? Something along the lines

He did have a Kawasaki ZZR 600 before hand which was brutally loud

Car is back on the ground. Have taken it for a quick test spin down the road and noticed a knock from the rear (Exhaust - since moving it to put diffuser back on its obviously now fouling on something)

And a knock from the front right. Immediately got the car back in the air and pulled the hub down to see if I could find anything wrong but nothing seems loose/worn. Did speak with Tom (Supplier) on the phone about the top mounts and he did mention that now they're rose jointed they'll transmit a lot more noise and anything I might not have noticed on rubber top mounts previously I will potentially be hearing now. But he confirmed the top mounts look right.

MOT on Tuesday anyway so it'll be picked up whatever needs sorting

One thing I did do was tear the boot on an anti rotation link slightly. Just going to get a euro car parts one for the time being just for MOT. Only. £15 so not the biggest of set backs.

Pics to follow
