Little bit of slop when pulling away...

This is very minor, but it's bugging me and I'm wondering if it's just how the car is or whether its a symptom of a worn bush somewhere.

Essentially, when pulling away it feels like a bush compresses before energy is transferred into forward movement. It's super minor, but it's there. Which bush would be responsible?

That's what I was thinking, but wondering which. It seems logical to think it'd be the torque arm that would have the most effect (although I keep reading that going poly can be hard to get wife approval on) but then I guess it could be g/box or another engine mount... (?)

just check your torque arm by grabbing it and giving it a wiggle mine was very slack when i changed mine. you will get some vibrations after but they do settle after a few hundred miles (and it looks better) IMG_0697.JPG

Not given it a wobble yet but I reckon you’re into something. Feels like it’s energy stored in transmission, but it might just be how the car is. Hard to tell.

I’m in Seattle for a week but when I get back I’ll give your suggestion a shot and probably end up changing it over regardless. It looks pretty simple and if I don’t like the vibrations I guess I’ll swap in a new standard part.

Thanks!

Changing the torque mount does have a dramatic effect. I find it more direct and feels good, having done gearbox mount, torque mount and dogbone/bottom Id say thats more than enough for a road car. Main mount gives horrible vibrations, mine only gives vibrations at idle.

I'd echo the above

The torque arm does give big vibrations at first but you just have to stick it out for a few hundred miles and you won't even notice it's in there. Plus it helps to prevent the wear on your manifold flexis [emoji846]

Can then move on to dogbone if you're feeling that too. Helps tighten up a bit more, again it'll vibrate for a few days then feel normal again.

I used to daily mine with the three as mentioned above but recently fitted the main engine mount, does vibrate a fair amount and the dashboard rattles a bit but I love it, I'm sure it'll die down a little bit. Surprisingly made a massive difference too

Checked and they all seem fine. Compared with the wife's nismo juke which seems to have the same setup and hers had the same amount of movement which was barely any, so I'm guessing this is just a characteristic of an OEM setup. I may buy the poly bush at some point, but while I don't mind vibrations I don't fancy feeling them in the steering wheel unless it's only temporary so I'll ponder on this one for a bit longer.

Decided to buy and fit a poly bush. Totally fixed it. The old bush seemed OK but I can't believe that would be the OEM setup.

I was worried about increased vibrations, which do exist but much less that I anticipated. It's less the feeling of vibrations and more the sound being communicated into the cabin that is the downside, the low frequency noises such as exhaust on low revs are transmitted through the cabin - if you like the sound a free flowing air filter makes then it might be considered an upside.

Let's see if it settles down. No way I'm going back to the old OEM bush - this makes the car feel very responsive to the throttle. Super easy and quick to fit as well.

Tempted to do the lower and g/box mounts now, although the vibrations haven't exactly got better yet. Probably worse, but only done about 200 miles.

I was in the same boat and ended up buying the torque bushing on a whim.

Made a noticeable difference and honestly the vibrations I don’t even notice just the dash rattle for me.

Definitely makes the car feel more lively, plan on getting the rest done when I do the cambelt 110% worth the money spent.

This is something I don't need at the moment but really want. Are the vibrations bareable? My car is low mileage and standard and I like it that way.

I think it depends more on the individual.

Some say the torque arm is unbearable and had it changed for a new OEM one and it was sweet.

I personally don’t have much vibrations at all I’m now at about 250 miles but even when it first went in the vibrations were so minimal. It’s literally just the dash rattling but that’s only at low rpm, say pulling away slowly etc.

So in short - it’s 100% your choice, if you don’t like it, you could always sell it on the forums here or fleabay/fb marketplace

I understand the benefits but I only want not need them at the moment. After living with a 182 rattles are part of the 'driving' experience. :french:

Bearable? Yeah definitely. It’s less vibration and more resonance that’ll you’ll notice. In slow stop start traffic it’s probably the most prominent.

For the record, I get no rattling at all - just resonance and I’m also at 32k miles and 100% standard except for this.

Got my first rattles developing now. Some was stuff in the glove box, but another is something else in the dash.

Maybe not a great idea if you’re not tolerant of increased noise. I’m gonna stick with it for a bit and see how we get on.

Should try all four! [emoji23] When it gets hot the whole steering column starts shaking like mad

I have to hold the steering wheel still in when stationary to have a conversation with whoever's in the car

Still doesn't bother me too much though as it's rarely driven

LOL

I think I was bracing myself for worse, was pleasantly surprised, and now reality is setting in and I’m realising I’ve turned the shell into an engine sound resonator.

I think I might try a new OEM part instead ans see how we get on seeing as it’s so easy to switch.

I’m really interested in the other bushes too as I do like how tight everything feels
