So i have removed the old seal because it was leaking. And it came off in chunks as it had gone brittle. The new seal doesnt seem to fit in the same way i thought it would... see pics. It doesnt push down into the hole at all. Im stuck...

Any help would be great.

Thank you.

have you got all of the old seal out of the hole?

if yes then the seal needs "tapping" in to the recess with a socket on the outer edge of the seal - just make sure the seal is the correct one & you tap it in level/square - a light coating of oil on the outside may also help - i have not had to change one before

The picture below is all i managed to remove.. it was solid... iv found out that the seal has a metal part on it too but nothing like that came off :/ i was so scared of stuff falling into the head

part of the outer body of the seal will still be in there - need that gone first

It’s a tight fit but if there’s nothing left in there it should go. As @Foxspeed says tap in in squarely using a socket and it should go and make sure it’s covered in oil too. I can remember mine was quite hard to do.

Where abouts can I pick one of these up out of interest? [emoji846] I was told I had a little bit of oil misting around my VVT switch. So I'm assuming this would be why

Sorted the seal. Big screwdriver and hammer.
Yes got it from rpd.

But now another issue.... doesnt feal like the car has any vvt anymore... theres no step in revs.. its suposed to be roughly 4, 4.5k isnt it.

197/200 use continuas vvt so they dont have an as sharp a lift in torque/revs as 172/182 as they had a definitive point to in the revs where the vvt kicked in...it should still race for the red line and head butt the limiter
