LY200 - too loud or blow up again, taking bets!

Well it's been 9 months now and was only really; fuel pump/line, oil cooler/lines, loom, data logger, throttle pedal, some bumper/bonnet catches, battery tray, and then later on added in the water lines/header tank to the list. There's been a lot of delays and I know how many days it would have taken me (excluding the loom), and well I could have finished it spending even 1 day a month on it.

To suggest I'm bored of cars is an understatement, I wouldn't be replacing it directly, I think a KTM Duke 400. I also bought the new Mini Clubman S last year and that's just a ton of fun as a daily and frankly when the PCP ends I'll be tempted to buy it and track it. I've tracked far more unlikely cars and they've always been the best days!

Naked or the newer 'faired / sports' version ?

Front end of the sports version isn't the prettiest. But either are ridiculous value. I don't see how you could have newer / more modern fun for less money on two, three or 4 wheels ? And all the reviews i've read agree.

Between holidays, houses, kids and cars - i'd love to see if i could scrape enough together for one...

Sounds like you've outlived Clio life. Move on....there's so much nice metal out there - if its what you fancy.

Shame to hear that but I kind of expecting such an update in all honesty.

Cars are meant to be driven and not spend years at the garage, especially when things don't go to plan it's easy to lose faith and interest. Especially when there is - a lot - of money involved.

What really makes me sad is how close you actually are to finalise this but yet again, would it be ever finalised?

It's a low mileage example in a very sought after colour, return it back to standard mate and sell all your parts. Cut your losses and move on. I think a NA 197/200 beast is not meant to happen!

Prefer the older one and would suit the budget better no doubt. I'm debating whether to get a Grom too/first - I've never ridden properly but something I've always wanted and lusted after bikes, so this year I AM doing my test! Not sure if a Grom would be something to have a laugh on and get to grips with first - and then get the Duke 400? Just not sure if it would be too fast off the bat :\ I had a 50cc like 10years ago, barley used it because it was so slow it was dangerous, so a happy medium must exist? If I was being an idiot I'd get an XSR900!!

Will see what the loom guy says when he gets it back. It's going there tomorrow, apparently. I'm at a loss as to why this wasn't checked when picked up, and it's been back from the loom place now for several months.
It should have been so good, drop the car off, get the bits I can't be fucked to do done and have them done well, job jobbed.

Some progress pics, & loom day now on Friday.

Oil cooler with additional diverter on to the Pure rad shrouding:

Custom battery and catch tank setup - done a top job. (Which the quality isn't the issue, just the time). Can see the -20 progold line for the rad too! Also got the Pure top breather plate on there now.

AiM Data Logger screen (EVO4S + GS-Dash):

Aero catches (Still the bumper holes to be drilled as per the phtoshop). Such a horrible angle of the car, looks really snouty!

I’d love to know how much this will give you on a dyno. Obviously the throttle response should be night and day

And... dat sound

Oh god how much on the dyno ... I don’t know if I can take that sort of stress! :coldsweat:

Well it’s obviously gone down to standard compression compared with the last engine, but it was knock limited before so I would think the map can pick up a little bit of timing to compensate - the net effect of which will likely be chunk less midrange but comparative top end.
The bodies, honestly be surprised if they actually contribute much at all, stock inlet is decent and on mild cams and standard valve sized head it’s really not a bottleneck. You also then have the whole tract length thing to consider on ITBs, where longer typically good for torque and shorter for higher peak. I think the setup as it is looks good - but I’ll be honest I’ve not measured it and calculated things. I took the easy/lazy approach and let Nick come up with the kit and have rolled with it. The manifold is a very nice design with a good shape and transition to the port, so any later fine tuning only needs to be trumpet length. I guess I’ll cross that bridge if it makes bugger shite on the dyno!

But yeah, I do want 220bhp and 180ftlb, any less would ultimately be disappointing.

202Bhp after all this :tearsofjoy: can imagine:

Haha this forum is definitely missing a dislike button! It'll be mapped at Track N Road by Steve Greenald and his dyno is of the no BS variety.

Still it's 99% done and now needs paying for (paypal donations welcome!) only thing is need to fit the airfilter back on, and possibly change the throttle pedal. It is using the prototype bracket from Pure and didn't have the stop/spring fitted, and is therefore using the bodies as a stop which I'm told was just likely to snap the cable in the long run that way. I know Pure have a newer spec bracket and cable so I'll probably run that.

Bumper is done, have decided for now not to do the side catches/pins though. I may add them at a later date, it depends if I can get the filter on/off without needing to remove the bumper.

I was going to ask how you were going about air flow to the bodies then I saw the holes! [emoji23] Fair enough man, looks so good!

Not sure if I missed it or not, when is the plan for mapping?

Yeah along with the slit right across the nose should be fine for air, although on the left side from factory there is a weird little tab that half obscures that side (where the OE air feed is) - I'll cut that off as I think that was left on. If I'm honest the ITB's were a justification to make the holes, air flow was a secondary consideration!

Mapping not booked, actually not sure I can afford it for a bit, so I think I'm collecting the car on Tuesday where it can then lay dormant in my garage for another month or so! Suffice to say the bill (whilst not unreasonable) has amounted to another small fortune.

Unreal car! Hopefully the recent progress/updates lifted your spirits and you've abandoned the idea of breaking it!

Cheers, and yes and no truth be told. Certainly pleased to see it basically done, but it will be a while before I'm fully happy with it. - I've still got doubts/nerves as to will it drive ok, no errors on dash etc. Plus not sure how the throttle pedal will be, certainly on the bracket it had when I dropped it off, was horrible - and it's a bit annoying to have to sort that still.
I'll certainly aim to do a few track days and then judge from there really.
