Ball joint.

Happy new year everyone.
Right my driver's side ball joint has gone, any of the Yorkshire people know a good garage that will just replace the ball joint ? Sheffield /Rotherham area ?
One garage I've spoken to wants to replace the ball joint and the arm (the complete unit )
Should I change the complete unit or just the ball joint ?

Yep, but it might be a bit more for you.
Only because I had other work done at the same time which may have made them reduce the price a little, if you get me?

Just to throw a spanner in the works, mine is currently in the garage having the ball joint done, and the mechanic said it was so far gone that it almost fell out when he was removing it, and when fitting a new one it was really loose in the housing meaning a new housing is required. Just a heads up in case yours has been buggered for a while!

I have a feeling I'm going to have the same problem , not had time to get car to garage yet , I'm just using my works van.
Any idea what a new housing would cost ?

I'm not 100% sure yet, the mechanic is currently trying to source a non-genuine one as Renault charge an extortionate amount for them apparently. Once I have a price I will let you know, and I'll try and find out where he found it.

I've not actually heard of this happening before, but I have been ignoring my ball joint creaking for the last month or so, so it's my fault really!

It past the m.o.t last February with a advisory on the ball joint so really I should have had it done then. Lol

Give Bolsover Car Care a call (think they're called Intake Motors now) only down the road from you, they know their Renault Sports and were excellent (and the cheapest in the area) when I had mine done there. They can just replace the ball joint rather than the full unit providing yours is ok. The number I have for them is 01246 823464.

Thank you fella I'll try them now , just getting a few quotes but I don't mind paying a bit extra knowing the work is good.

The work is definitely good and he certainly knows his stuff. They aren't exactly cheap but I'm sure it was around £40 a side cheaper than other places I called (I haven't got my invoice to hand or I would be able to tell you what I paid)

Give them a call, if my experience is anything to go by then you'll be more than happy with the work.

Just spoke to him ,£150 a side he said which is £50 cheaper than DDC Doncaster , so thank you for that.
Going to have a run up at weekend let him have a look

Not a problem! I'm sure that's what I paid too so nice to see the prices are still the same. Hopefully he gets you sorted
