197 Cup F4RT track car

Sorry not been on for some time had some sort of issue with tapatalk not working showing forum error, deleted app and reinstalled now all okay so I’m back, and with updates......

So firstly the issue with the clutch ended up with me fitting R26R SMF from Pure Motorsport and a diesel clutch. My issue with the clutch was a real annoying one. The clutch plate was the wrong way around, which damaged the slave meaning it wasn’t fully disengaging the clutch. So slightly embarrassing but the price you pay when you remove the old clutch months before and can’t remember and the fact these clutches don’t have engine/ flywheel side stamp. But had to say in case anyone else ever has this issue.

So clutch fitted and bled all driving nice, dropped off to efi Parts today for mapping, slight mix up with bookings so had to leave there but he’s making extra efforts to squeeze it into his busy schedule and should be ready the weekend, fingers crossed all goes smoothly. I need some luck for a change.

Small little things I’ve done are fully strip the trims off and fit a screenwash tank in the boot and wire it so still works off the normal lever just uses the rear washer pipework. Which is quite neat, de-wipered the rear, put my plate on and collected the cup racer wheels,
that’s about it.

Got somebody coming to look at the 172 now I’ve fitted the cambelt so looks like that’s going now [emoji22]

Also here’s some photos of the exhaust that DKU did me, they made a really good job using V bands too, I’ll get more photos of it when I get it on a ramp at work. But you get the idea.

Some updates, finally got everything sorted then the gearlinkage kept popping off, so I added lock wire, but unfortunately on the way to Anglesey for its first trackday the cable popped out of the housing meaning I was pretty much left with 4th gear so bit the bullet and bought this

My reasoning well it’s better to do it properly and not miss another track day than buy more cables only for it to happen again. If I’m honest I think the person who fitted the short shift to the linkage drilled the whole too close, meaning the cable was under too much tension. Anyway the CAE is as amazing as you imagine.

Here’s some photos from Anglesey which turned out to be very wet, which was just my luck after the summer we’ve had (this was August) anyways still an amazing place feels so wrong having such good views and also being on track proper double whammy

So this was its first if you like ‘shakedown’ and was exactly that as it showed me improvements were needed.

Since the clio was playing silly buggers I then did a trackday at donnington in my mates mx5 the three of us shared the car it was constantly out covering over 160 laps and was absolutely flying we were hitting 1.26 laps which is very quick for a car on 5yr old rsr tyres and that is new to us plus they have no power but all the handling great fun!!

There were a lot of clios and meganes there too which I had a good bit of fun with. Not sure if you’re on here but these are their cars

Brands hatch GP

This was a biggy first track day since the issues have been ironed out and this track is so rarely on I could not wait. It didn’t disappoint either!!!
Clio was fast round there it’s my first time ever at Brands and paddock is quite surprisingly steep! Through the laps I did I still didn’t get to grips with that corner.
Again I had issues though, I swapped to slicks, first time I’ve put them on and usually I run spacers in my road wheels mainly for looks if I’m honest, but it seems the inner of the cup racer wheels were rubbing against the brake line, the ones I used are ktec and they’re ran through a p clip into the hub and also cable tied to the drop link but they still fowled. Luckily proline are close so my mates very kindly drove me there for me to pick up some new lines and he made there and then for me. Amazing service and a really nice bloke too. His workshop was amazing. So got the lines fitter they were much shorter than ktecs ones which I guess was the issue as when going back out these didn’t fowl. But still issues I cracked my disc and that was the end. And I did still have a lot of fun

Still brands was amazing

a load of lads from here did the opentrack day at donnington

They’re in my opinion one of the best organisers. Very laid back, fair price inc photos of the day and Dave is a genuinely nice guy to chat with, some days do get very busy though that is sometimes the downside. But I’ve had this with both javelin and msv days

Just an update as I’ve not posted much on here for a while

Had the car cleaned ready for the winter by a lad at my work, came up really well!!

Also fitted one of my other seats, not sure which I’m going to stick with yet, but the visibility without the wings on the seats is a vast improvement so for now will stick with this. Swapped from my Willans to Scroth harnesses too. So which seats do you think are better?

Then into winter [emoji3587] prep/strip so far I’ve removed the exhaust and stripped the front end down again ready for a new rad, going alloy which looks like it should be a big improvement but we shall see. So far no matter how much stick I give on the road it’s fine but on track was getting warm, I think the waterless coolant so far was a good idea as it meant was less of a worry as this coolant can run hotter without boiling.

And I’m going to be fitting the hybrid 250 turbo I have also, pics from the guy I bought it off but you get the idea.

should hold the power up much better..good job..looking forward to your feedback..

Great updates mate. Much prefer the wrap around seats. Wish I had a set for mine to be honest now as it doesn’t get driven on the road! Much more support around the shoulders too.

i do love the wrap around seats but i think without a cage they look a bit odd. Car looks great though!

A cage has been high on the parts list and I’ve now placed an order for a SW Motorsport cage purchased through Supreme Motorsport. They were very quick with their responses and was patient, as I asked a lot of questions trying to make sure it’s the cage I wanted. Hoping for it to be ready in the coming weekends.

Some other updates:

I have a new seat again...

The new hybrid 250 turbo has been fitted, which will then be future proof.

Ordered a Direnza rad but this came incorrectly made and I’ve then been told this is correct which is a little concerning. The rad was made but without the expansion tank pipe take offs. So how I’m supposed to fill the system is beyond me but not going to find out as I’ve just had the Airtec radiator delivered and this is far superior

Also been looking for a better solution for an expansion tank as the plastic one is just resting there as it’s hard to fix in place, I bought an eBay item for a mini which looks spot on but the bottom hose needs altering to a 90 instead of coming straight out as to get the bonnet to shut and have no vibrations the bottom hose is kinked.
