225 tyres

Has anyone gone to 225 45 17 tyres on thier 197s? Im looking into it as it will have a little more give on the rough roads and also offers a touch more rim protection as the 215s seem to leave the alloys a little bit exposed.

yup. run that size on the 8x18 raider wheels.
looks are much better than on 215's.

i run 225's on my standard cup wheels. Perfect! More grip! easier to find that size too. (Cheaper)

What make / model of tyres is everyone running in 225's ?

***No one gone to 225/40 profile.............?

The rolling radius going up to a 225 is next to nothing really.
All the previously mentioned reasons were factors too.
Cheers folks, responses much appreciated.

Im currently looking at winter tyres but for any other time of year ill be looking at uniroyal rainsports 3.

Ahh not too much then mate. But I'm anal enough for that to be a consideration!!!

^^^^ Why i asked above about 40 profile tyres above.

But getting the calculator out - they would make the speedo slightly further out and the other way reading fast.

So 225/45-17's are the 'best / closest' you can get to standard in terms of keeping the speedo reading as accurate as possible; whilst getting more rubber on the road.

Rolling radius will go up on 225 no?

like fireheed said, difference is negligible.

i'm pretty sure a 225/40 17 tyre doesn't exist.
