197 main beam wont flash

Morning all,

My 2007 197 wont flash or turn on the main beam headlights. I know the bulbs work because after some pulling on the stalk they did come on and stay on but I then couldn't turn them off. The main beam indicator doesn't flash on the dash either so i'm thinking its going to be the stalk. I just want to check to see if anyone else has had this issue.
 
After having a quick chat with a Renault master tech, he has confirmed they are common as you like on these and Renault even keep them in stock. They are about £100. Hope that helps if anyone else has the same problem
 
Had this problem years ago with my 1.2 clio, managed to find a replacement on Ebay which did the job and worked a treat after! Seems like they're prone to wear overtime!
 
It would be worth opening up the stalk as the contacts are known to oxidise, resulting in an inconsistent stalk. There is a how to on the forum somewhere I'll try and find later. I cleaned the gold contact with a pencil eraser and it worked great after that. Worth doing this first as its free!
