I have decided I would like to get a new set of shock absorbers. I have a Clio 197 and am aware that the 197 has the old style top mounts. I would like to know for sure if Clio 200 cup dampers will be a straight fit to my car? I've heard conflicting information about this and would appreciate a definitive answer. I have been speaking to a forum member who has been very helpful but would like to know if anyone has gone from full fat Clio 197 dampers to 200 cup dampers?

My mate has just had his Clio 200 (09 plate = 197 struts) bagged. When he dropped it in they assumed it was a 200 and went ahead and ordered 200 struts to modify for the bags. When they came to do the install they wouldn't fit. So I presume they wouldn't fit vice versa.
EDIT: Unless you got the earlier style 200 struts with the same top mounts as the 197, but surely they're the same as a 197?

yes that is correct but I would like to know if on later 200 models the dampers were the same or if they'd changed them along with the new style top mounts
Thanks for the info! My plan was to get 200 cup pack shocks all round and 197 top mounts but I just need confirmation if this is possible or not. I would like to know if the 200 had just changed the top mounts but kept the exact same dampers.

Are you running standard springs, cup or aftermarket? And what's it like please? Thinking of similar on my 197. Thanks.
Good to hear someone else that has done this, as I understand it there is only one type of Clio 200 cup dampers it is just the top mount which changed. Do you remember the part number and if they go straight onto the 197 top mount?

You've got it. The top mount changed, but the damper didn't except the internals.

With eibach springs. I'm very happy, I went from cup dampers and springs. They're a lot stiffer, a little bouncy at the back at normal speeds. But driven fast they're great

I want to double check before I order the ones from Renault parts direct that they will bolt onto my 197 ff without any modification required on the new shocks?
I have 200 cup suspension on my 197 and it handles very well, ride is a bit harsher over the standard shocks and springs with minimal body roll and car settles well after suspension compression.
