mpg does not =performance

Im struggling to get my head around the fuel my 197 uses considering the relative lack of straight line exceleration it has.
It very easy get it into the teens and you really have to drive like Miss Daisy to get above 23mpg. Its a shame as i love the way it corners and stops but dont think i can live with these mpg figures. Ive had lots of 300/400+bhp cars and with these i except to be getting 20ish on those.
I may have to let her go i think.....

well you dont buy one of these cause they are environmentally friendly
i dont get more than 20 mpg..

Are we talking about town driving or motorway? Around town I get an indicated 16 mpg (driving the Clio in the manner it was intended)

The mpg isn't great, if you only use the car sparingly and for short distance journeys like I do then your mpg will get hammered, in saying that I'm getting a consistent 23mpg, you must be constantly bouncing off the limiter to be seeing figures in the teens.

Well Mine did 19mpg on a trackday at cadwell park. I averaged about 26 when we went round Yorkshire a few weeks ago. Normally I average about 27-28, about 30-31 on the motorway and I'm rarely dawdling behind the wheel.

Quite a wide spread of MPG's there, I know it's not designed with economy in mind but i was surprised. I only bought the car as a stop gap whilst I worked out what I want to buy. I'll have some fun with it for a bit and then move it on. Don't get me wrong it's a fun car and handles and stops well and loves the twisty's.

I know I can't comment yet as I have a 182 atm, however I consistently get over 30 in mine, and I don't doodle.

I've not had mine that long, but fuelly has tracked ~2500 miles at 32mpg (all on super). It's also tracking better than the trip computer reports, which is novel. Very little "town" driving, most is flowing country roads on the commute, but I've had a couple of days blatting too - even on those it only got down to around 25. Struggling to imagine what you lot getting <20mpg on the road are doing. You do know it's got 6 gears...?

I'm at Porsche Silverstone at the weekend for a driver training session in the Clio, so will be interesting to see what it does on their little tracks.

I had 26mpg on a recent track day (i didnt reset it just dropped the avg down to this from 29-30 mpg, so probably not correct).

I consistently got 34mpg out of my 182 which is about +5 mpg better over my regular route.

Trip computer indicates 28.6mpg over nearly 4000 miles. Motorway cruising at approx 70 seems to get about 34mpg and my commute to work is only 5 miles each way where it's more like 24mpg. Pretty happy with the overall average to be honest  (Fuel has always been 99 Momentum, although recently filled with VPower and car seemed to prefer it).

Echo this, anything sub 20 must be really thrashing it - constantly.

Mine currently sits on 25.5, however my commute to work every morning is only about half a mile and other than that I don't really do a lot of miles during the week. On the last few long journeys on the motorway it easily got up in to low 30's which I think is pretty good.

Well turbo'd engines are more thermal efficient, so when being driven the same as a NA it will yield better MPG
