LY200 - too loud or blow up again, taking bets!

@ben_r1 what exhaust system did you have? (manifold, cats etc).

Also you had a TDF EC1 I think? which iirc is a re-boxed SC ECU - did it run ok? Did you still have VVT and Sequential injection?

Cheers

Standard exhaust manifold decatted, 2nd decat, yozzasport system.
I had the EC1 yes and I believe you are correct it was an SC under the skin. VVT had to be deleted as I went forged high comp pistons with custom deep valve pockets to accommodate very aggressive cams ( The two up from 402s can't remember now! ) and the excessive lift would have put too much stress on the dephaser.

At this state of tune it actually drove better once them VVT was deleted as the power delivery was silky smooth and the ITBs could make up the lost midrange.

Car ran like a dream from the day it left TDF to the day I sold it. God I miss her :worried:

Ah 404's then, although with VVT delete I guess you need to use the specific cams with a keyway for locking a vernier on - which would mean it was a 433 in the 404 profile.

I think TDF used 404/433's on an X85 racer they did which made 240bhp. Though thats trying to put 2+2 together from a bunch of old posts from Matt and some videos, but is what I'd expect them to make roughly with everything optimised on the timing/setup, and the inlet and exhaust lengths tuned.

Seems ever more clear that sticking mine on a standalone and a decent exhaust will unleash the 403's up to the 225ish they should be making. hmmm shall I just do it!!!??!!!

Better sell the engine to some kind of raceteam or the likes if you're going to fit standalone. Fit a k20 or k24 in there and start with the power you're trying to get now

Yeah I know, in hindsight I could have installed a K20 for the money I've spent on both the engine and box

Obvioulsy I hope nothing goes wrong with the engine, but, if it does a K20 will go in as long as I've got a standalone in place and working OEM dash.
Wouldn't take too much, the engine I think is smaller when I did have a quick look before (must be lighter due to alloy block), so custom shafts, small changes to suit K20 sensors on the loom, frig the flange and primaries on the R3 exhaust manifold and map it! Worse case would be a custom manifold, but the R3 at least is sellable.

Or buy a crashed S2000 and drop the F20C, box, custom prop and use S2000 diff and rear end..... imagine that; rwd, 240bhp NA, 9000rpm! All wrapped up a mk3 shell in LY paint! :001_wub:

May aswell have just bought a Civic then. I say stick with the F4R and keep it true.

Before I sold we ( me and TDF ) were looking at sourcing an R3 exhaust manifold and customising the front of the slam panel to accomodate longer trumpets. This wold have taken me much closer to the 240bhp mark.

Beyond that we were looking at the catcam uprated valve train setup to allow a 9000rpm rev limit. There was even plans for a Sadev sequential gearbox...

They can be tuned just takes a lot of money.

Yeah, when I was diagnosed with a buggered bottom end I thought about buying an FN2, but thought not a lot of point because I'll just do the same as I was planning for the Clio. Of course the Civic would have yielded a better bhp return, but the Clio chassis, looks and fact I didn't need to go through the hassle of selling and buying meant I rebuilt my motor.
No question that had I known I was going to spend on the Clio I should have bought a Civic from day 1 though.

Yeah I've seen Matt say to get over 230bhp you need the R3 manifold, which I have, so my restriction must be the system and the cam profile. Though the cam profile should be good for 225+/- a bit. Unless the inlet manifold is an the issue, but I don't see how it can be given they use them on the R3 Maxi Evo with 250cv.

Some crazy plan ideas being lined up here lol!
Ben, what happened to TDF now? Have they stopped trading?

They never really had time for the customer based road cars, as anyone who tried to get booked in would tell you. By the end of it Matt was away in different countries every week testing race car setups etc. The last time I saw him he had actually won the contract to develop a new race platform chassis from the ground up, had a look in his 'secret warehouse' where it was all going on, very impressive stuff.

I do occasionally speak to him now and again, they're still about but now specialise in maintenance and trackside support for private owners of ex F1 cars!

Here's a pic of his workshop he sent me recently:

Impressive stuff, I can see Matt's business has been escalated to something much more interesting. No wonder why he didn't have any time for road clios...

My eBay purchase of wheel bags has turned out good. Will stop any muck when I take the track wheels inside the car.

But my cheap eBay catch can, well what a piece of ****. Broke assembling it, was a 'D1' carbon catch can, avoid. Not even ****ing carbon either, it's alloy just wrapped with carbon on the outside and for something that holds just less than 1/2ltr and doesn't have any baffles, is quite heavy.

Hopefully pick up a 1ltr Mocal tank from Merlin when I'm at Combe tomorrow. You need 1ltr for sprints so not sure why I bought the D1, got suckered into the 'carbon' like some kind of magpie!

Wow I like that wheel bag thing, thinking about getting Oz's for mine for the summer, might buy a similar sort of device to store them/standard alloys in the garage.

Does the car actually burn enough oil to warrant a catch can? I have no idea about it really lol.

The catch tank, well it's probably mostly a theory thing I guess as I don't think these engines generally consume much oil. But as mine's a high comp I just wanted to have it prior to track. Though weathers not looking so good tomorrow.

Yeah £7.99 a bag, makes carrying them easier and no dirt on me or the car! But as above with the weather...probably not taking the AD08R's now - no garages at Combe and looking wet all day.

Failed the drive-by noise limits at Combe on Monday...!
Luckily when I was re-tested on static is was 99dB, so I said I'll shift up at 6k not 7.5+ and I was very luckily given 1 more chance, but absolutley no more! Luckily it was obviously enough as they didn't come and turf me off. Time for an Akra now I think.

Few quick mobile snaps but felt I needed to show the car gets some love occasionally and is still bloody mint on the outside really!

Had this lot lined up for the outside but in the end a couple I couldn't be bothered with and a few left still to apply:

This was after a snow foam and during the wash!:

Got as far as applying the Megs Ultimate Polish and then the AG Ultra Deep Shine (still to do another day - AG Extra Gloss Protection and Megs Gold Wax, and the glass work):

Then I need to get some more quality shots with it really.
The upshot of all this work too is I'm not paying for a detailing just yet, need the money for parts.

Hello, good to meet you at Combe. I was in the White Integra. Thought I wound look you up as Dan, one of the lads with me, mentioned you told him it had some work done. Nice to see the car getting looked after
