197: starting to hate my 197

driving home from my mrs' house last wed night, clear road, pulled out to overtake a car managed to get past then engine died and i had to coast to the bus stop at far end of the road, the check injector light flashed up which it has done a good few times, so i checked everything and left car 10 mins and tried again which usually works. car would turn over but not start so had to get my parents out at midnight to come tow me to nearest carpark to leave car and give me a lift home. next day got recovery truck out to get it taken to a garage where it has sat until today when they were able to get a start on it. good news is it is fixable but the bad news is that water had gotten into the gearbox, the clutch plate was a little rusty, part of the clutch had snapped off and rattled around the bell housing and put a hole in it and had also taken out the TDC sensor with it. one other good thing about it is that its made me get my finger out and fix my starlet aswell, not an ideal situation having 2 cars with mot and tax if both are broken

Mine did that, so I feel for you mate! Mine put a hole in it near the gearbox oil fill hole so it pissed box oil out all day long too! Got mine welded up and is good as before! ...so if possible don't fork out for a new box! Renault wanted to charge me silly money, chucked a decent welder £30.00 and the box is now probably stronger aha!

not really sure what caused it, iv been lucky its put a hole in a bit that doesnt have any or much oil in it so it is just a new clutch and sensor and theres no need to replace the box and they are going to weld the hole but i have told them to put in an upgraded clutch for me instead of another standard one, old one has gotta be replaced so its the ideal time to upgrade. quite glad to find out im not the first person this has happened too.

got the car back, new clutch, new slave cylinder, new tdc sensor, and the hole in the bell housing welded, have to say car feels much better and pulls better through the gears and it is no longer misfiring ocasionally and the flat spots i was experiencing for the past 2 months are now gone. Happy Days, however, it did cost me just shy of 1k, not so happy days lol
