V12 EVO is it me or are they gash?

I had a couple of Hancook v12 evo's put on the rear to replace the 'well used' conti 5s on the rear the other day .

done about 120 miles on them now but feel that the 197 is not as good ,i have to correct the steering all the time on sharpish bends, where as before it was just point and shoot .

Starting to feel i made a mistake and should of got the contis instead of saving few £s i can only hope they get better in time i upped the pressure a couple of psi to try and counteract the soft side walls.

Any other users find this? will they get better?

I ended up in a ditch three days ago, in all honestly I believe with higher quality tires that wouldn't have happened. I've done about 2000 miles with mine, they are pretty good tires, a lot better than the cheapies I had before them, although I think they're only average in the wet. You can still play with the car for they are progressive but for -very- fast road use they are not up to the task.

I dont rate them. Lack the grip of the Contis, Yokos, Pirellis and Brigestones I've used.

Imo, you get what you pay for with regards to tyres.

Always had contis, lesson learned ,i should of known better with all my years driving quick cars ,buy the best:001_rolleyes:

You get what you pay for with tyres in my eyes so no they won't be on a par with contis etc.

My car came with 'Hero' tyres - think that they're made by Cadburys? Anyway, changing them to v12s all round transformed the car. Going up to conti's I'd expect the same again for the price difference else I'd be pretty annoyed.

It's strange how a bit of rubber can change things so much on cars like these.

Maybe because i got new grippy tyres on maybe the backend was letting go a bit on the old contis? prehaps i need to get used to hankooks?

tbh the old tyres were on the wear bars so ill give it another week till i decide what to do with the v12s

i always thought hankook were a proper mickey mouse brand like kumho and ling lang, wouldnt be a brand id have even consider for a car that handles like the clio.theyre the only part of the whole car in contact with the road, so whatever you do to suspension or brakes etc goes out the window if your tyres are w* nk!
im trying dunlop sport maxx at the moment and they seem good, if u r on a budget i highly recommend falken, theyre very progressive , grip well and wear well for the price
as jcs says you definitely get what you pay for with tyres

I have V12's on the front & thought they felt a bit wobbly? I upped the pressure by 2 psi & they don't feel as bad now. Although I did have Toyo Proxes on there before & I don't rate them at all.

Upping the tyre pressure will make them worse, your just raising the sides off the road and all your wear will be in the centre of the tyre. I'd be dropping the pressures so the tyre sits flat on the road.

Im currently running 31F 29R on my Semi's, you want the most contact possible with the road. Plus when you get some heat in them the pressures will raise slightly

I really liked them on my 197. Thought they were almost as good as Conti in the dry, slightly better in the wet and not only lasted longer, but cost less too. I've got them on the Mazda at the back. On the front are the old Pirreli P Zero Rosso that were on the back when I bought the car. Absolutely rubbush tyres. I want rid of them. Never seen the ESP come on so much. Front end just washes out. Hankooks on the front, no problem.

When I had my first car I had Yokohama A539s all round and kept understeering everywhere.. decided to upgrade the fronts to Pirelli P Zero Neros and the rear tyres couldn't stand the amount of grip the car had from the front and kept sliding out. Since then I've always had my best tyres on the rear as I'd much prefer a bit of understeer round a corner than a full on drift - I do not live in Tokyo.

My girlfriend has just had some new tyres on the back of her Mini and is complaining that it doesn't feel right.. it could just be that she/you are not used to the amount of flex in the tread of the new tyres? Combined with a softer sidewall maybe?
