"Don't buy a Renault" They told me.....

Sorry to hear this, this is awful that renault dealer not fix your car right. They should sort that car out in the first place!

Hope you get it sorted, all the best.

one issue is that due to renaults cull of dealers ...

Was it renault who had the clear out? the same woman at mansfield said it was renault wanting more money from them to stay a renault dealer and they refused to pay.

Although in saying that Toomey were a nightmare when buying too, once I had signed everything they couldn't be bothered and kept messing me about with collection and salesman would not return my calls.

I had the same thing, kept calling me before i agreed to buy the car, once they took a £500 deposit off me i could not get hold of him, was supposed to collect the car on a friday (they had 9 days to get it ready) and all their lies and bull meant i got it the saturday.

when renault culled the model range they culled dealers as well....sales over here and in europe have bombed as EVERYONE wants a jerman car :001_rolleyes:

I am travelling 60 miles each way next week to have my 2nd service done and the RS side skirts fitted at K-Tek Racing even though there is a main dealer 3 miles from home. Having had 'issues' with a previous car, I wouldn't trust my local dealer to replace a fuse....

If that is indeed the case then one might surmise Renault utilised an extremely effective trick in order to get rid of people they did not want destroying their reputation: a drastic increase in the franchise fees while weighing up the probability that it is unlikely the lamentable will pay: the result is that dealers struggling to satisfy their customers have a lack of capital and as a result they... throw their toys out of the pram and walk away. Thus, Renault and other businesses built on the franchise model don’t have to worry about the (expensive and time consuming) legalities of decommissioning a dealership. At the same time it is of course good practise to keep to a minimum the price increase (of the license) for those dealers that behave in a professional manner. The problem for Renault et al arises when a business owns several dealerships, but begins a precipitous fall in it’s after-care, unfortunately they now have the means and resources (monetary and human (i.e. a legal team)) to defend against the tactic outlined above. This results in your pain, when dealing with that particular bunion, being prolonged.

We also have the problem of those franchises who know they are on their way out: thusly, if you are a punter of one of these, you are doing nothing but butting your head against a wall:chair: and as such you must make the decision to move to another dealer or workshop or when it comes to your bill or indeed service in general, you will find sitting down rather uncomfortable.:001_huh:...:blush:mg:...:scared: (no offence intended :hug:smile: because they are on a mission to get every last penny they can out of you

What we need (and I would argue deserve) as consumers is a paradigm shift in the business practises of UK firms, from the ego-centric: get what you can from ‘em, fill our boots and f*ck em; to a consumer-centric: our customers will pay our bills/ salaries/ bonuses etc. if we treat Mr. A and Mrs B with some dignity. The latter does, as I am sure you all know, work highly effectively; but it still remains a mystery to me, why so many going into business choose the former :f1team07:

As far as a cull, a slimming of the product range and a clearing of the worst vendors works well and any losses in this metamorphoses are calculated, for instance there was a little company once on the verge of utter collapse; people used to jeer at it (I was a proud owner of one of their laptops in the early 90s and still use their computers today) and of course people still try to sneer at it, (and in this instance lets just put that sneering down to one or more of the seven deadly sins (a useful reference for the sake of the argument :headphone:smile:; but they took some extremely brave decisions: two of which were a slimming of their product line and a clearing out of the worst vendors; and on the back of those decisions things are now a little different. It is the case that people now look to that little company and say “you know that is not a bad way to do business” and they of course, are quite right :liambo:

Sounds like you have got a bit of a mission on your hands but if I was you I would push as much as you can . I would hope Renault would come to a compromise and say look as it's only 1 month out of your 12 warrenty and we want to keep you as a current customer we shall try our best to subsidise the cost at least even if they don't give you a full refund.

Talking of Gearboxes i've got a 06 plate 197 and as usual when you give the car a blast the 3rd gear sychromesh crunches (common fault on all 197 and 200's). It's fine when short shifting. However over the past 3 months my gearbox at times (but getting more frequent) has been really tough to get into 1st. I could be waiting at the traffic lights and car would be a normal temp and linkage won't go into 1st even without pumping clutch pedal. It's frustrating cause you feel under pressure when loads of cars are behind me. I don't know if it's the linkage thats on it's way out of the gearbox itself now 1st is acting up big time.

Car is 06 plate with 43k on clock and only do max of 6000k a year. Apart from that the car has been faultless.... Touch Wood!!

Hope you get your steering rack and gearbox fitted without any hassle and at no charge if Renault are good to you.

I've never come across a 'good' Renault dealer yet. I'vd dealt with co-op mansfield and Brian Leightons in Howden and Evans Halshaw S****horpe. All have had shocking levels of customer after-sales service.
I recently took the 200 to Bristol Street Motors Hyundai Mansfield who now do Renaults servicing as an approved vender and I must say they have been pretty good unlike the mentioned above!

I'm very happy with my Renault Dealer from a post-sales perspective. Good, friendly, flexible, pro-active. They are not the cheapest but I'm very satisfied with the level of service/workmanship I get and warranty issues have never been questioned (including a new engine). Martins Renault are the dealership in question. They know the car is mainly used on track but I never worry about them refusing a claim if required.

It's a shame when a few of the dealers don't take pride in what they do but in these times, they won't survive as it's a competitive market these days and bad news travels fast.

Well today is "Judgement Day", called garage a while back and they still don't have an answer as to whether I can reject. He said he'll call me later today, if he hasn't called by 5pm I'll be annoying and call back lol....

Well what happened?

It's not up to him whether or not you can reject, that's surely your call anyway?

Well I received a call yesterday at about 4pm and I can reject the car, I've also been told as they still have my old car that I can have that back and be put back in the exact same situation I was in before part exchanging.

I went to the dealer yesterday and went on a test drive with the technician who worked on my car, reason for that was to drive it to see if it had at least been fixed to make my decision easier e.g if it drives like crap then deffo rejection.

Anyway on the test drive I went to an industrial estate was doing full lock to full lock a load of times to test for knocking, then went on motorway to go through all the gears and see if it was pulling.

To be fair the car drove much better than last time, and how it was left was I took the car back and need to tell them what I'm doing today i.e keep the car or reject it and get old car back so they can sort everything.

One thing I noticed last night though is when steering there is like a sort of clicking noise, this is coming from the inside of the car when I turn the steering wheel. Any idea what this could be? When I move steering wheel it clicks/makes a noise from the steerign wheel itself.

At the minute I'm in two minds what to do as I do love the car, it looks great and it felt so good to be back in it, but the noise from steering is bugging me now (didn't do it on test drive) and I'm paranoid that if there are more problems down the line I'd regret not have giving the car back.

What would some of you do? Also if I do keep the car the damage to mirror will be done, but not the wheels.

Not sure if it's a good idea or if he will do it but I was thinking of paying and see if Sideways Danny can check over my car (or any specialist that is free today) and if they say it's ok then keep it but if they slate it then give it back. Good idea or not?

**** me, called a "specialist" just now and they want nearly 200 to check over the car lol

They sounded surprised when I said "I'll leave it thanks"....

for me i would reject the car take your money etc and go!!!!!

the dealer cannot be trusted to do a good job first time and its still got an issue that you dont like and you are still wanting it checked over by someone else...what happens if they find more issues on the car!!!!

give it back walk away and find another one theres good ones out there and its a buyers market for these at the moment :thumbup1:

+1 Walk away, you'll be restless keeping it. Plenty around to take your pick from. Call it fate...

What will happen however, is the car will be put back on the forecourt without any further thought by the dealership.

Good luck!

Seriously, just give it back so you can end the worries. There are loads of other cars out there!

Thanks for the replies. well it's been 100% confirmed the car is being rejected and will be going back. I have called dealer and told them my decision, what sealed it was a quick drive earlier and on start up I literally couldn't get it into gear for about 2 minutes and then when I did the steering was knocking like mad.

I know when cold it's difficult to put into gear but it was more notchy when cold before, but now it struggles to get into gear.

Just a waiting game now for everything to be finalised, still gutted as I've peed away nearly 500 quid on new continental sport contact 5s, if I had known this I would have just kept the budget nexens.

Try and get compo for the tyres and you been messed about.

Like I have said RUK have nothing to do with the second hand part of the dealers but if you explain you still want a Clio then they pull something out the bag for you. Even if it's just new tyres on the new clio as this will cost them less and leave you not out of pocket.
